New signings?

by

i wonder if we will see any more new signings this week. Tovey said last week that he had a couple of irons in the fire and was hoping to sign two players from a higher division club, I hope he does, we need something to kick our season back on track.

Slipped the net

by Cynical Sid

I hear this week that 22 year old Nick Haydon, Ex-Colchester United, has joined Chelmsford City.

Nick is a player that Chris Tovey has been after for a while. Why do these players not sign for us, but to a lesser club in a lower division?

Anyone who may threatens our managers place in the side will not be signed. Its really sad that we have lost some good players and replaced them with not so good. Dave Thomson and Jason Carter were better than John Girling. He reminds me of Frank LeBoef at times. Looks good and very fragile at the same time. Midfield, Ade Cambridge and Ian Stringfellow gone. Neil Pope arrives. Neil Coburn hounded out. Jason Burnham gone and a right sided midfielder playing at left back. We need 18 more points to avoid relegation and I really cant see where they are going to come from. Maybe we are building for the Eastern Division

Better or worse

by Spectator

Dave Thompson was a big loss in my opinion, but he is still suffering from his back trouble, so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to let him leave, Jason Carter left because he wanted to play closer to his home.

For me Adie Cambridge never really cut the mustard, but the others you mention, Burnham, Coburn (Histon have got a good'n there) and Stringfellow were all good players for City. It's interesting that the last two I mentioned, Coburn and Stringfellow, both left after falling out with Tovey, now I'm not niave enough to think that everyone will get on with everyone else all the time but it suggests that Tovey is not the easiest to get on with and if you cross him he harbours a grudge. Not a very good charachter trait for a football manager.

As for Skelly, I don't really know why he is considered a midfielder, during his time at King's Lynn he was a fullback, although he was a rightback not a leftback.

Congratulations

by Steve D.

Sid,

Congratulations on getting it 50% right! Chelmsford City may be in a lower division (not for long) but we are definitely not a lesser club!

We are very pleased to finaly sign Nicky Haydon - he obviously knows what's best for him in the long run. Look forward to seeing you in the Premier Division, although if Cambridge's current form persists then I may be the one getting it wrong!

Up the City (Chelmsford),

Whose forum is it anyway?

by anon

I`m getting fed up with people from Tamworth coming on here saying that their forum is littered with messages from City supporters (Mr Cooper)
Here is a fact:

Since February 4th, there have been 48 messages from Tamworth `fans` posted on this forum (an average of nearly 5 a day)

On the Tamworth forum there have been 6....YES SIX, from City fans during the same period

So who is doing the littering? Personally, I think our webmaster should assemble an IP blacklist and then delete everything sent from Tamworth.

I rest my case!

My Tamworth report....Cooper

by Lilywhite

I`ve read it through again and I can`t see what Cooper is getting uptight about. All I have done is report the facts, perhaps Cooper is affraid of the truth, perhaps the truth hurts sometimes. I would bet that 99% of City fans would agree with my report. At the end of the day, football is about opinions. If Cooper doesn`t like my opinions, he shouldn`t read them. But he is a mug, and can`t resist opening messages on a board, so do us a favour Cooper .....stop bleating and keep off our forum, and my site if you don`t like whats written. Next season

by City Gent

I am getting very worried about as a Chelmsford City supporter about your plight for the following two reasons.

1. I have been looking forward to seeing our footballing side kick your arse home and away showing the scumbag judas boys like Wardley, Bramble, Girling,Cambridge, Tovey, Pitcher and Coburn just which side has potential. However it would appear that come next season hardly any of those boys will be playing and I doubt you can unsettle or get our present players on the cheap like you usually do.

2. I reckon you may go down and therefore the teams would swap places, you cannot win at the moment and with the likes of Fisher keep winning you are in trouble. I know this because Lillywhite has not been on our website for about 5 months, he was never off last year. Oh well looks like Grantham is the big one next year.

I'm Surprised

by

For someone who takes as much interest in Non-League Football as you do, not to be aware of ground grading regulations. The ground grading rules make no mention of needing your own ground. I'm sure that we can all think of a club at the highest levels who groundshare.

The main criteria are that you have seven year tenure and that the facilities of the ground shared or owned or otherwise are up to specified levels.

The hostility was because it looked like you were taking a swipe at Chelmsford for no reason. Beware taking swipes before the 5th of May. They have a habit of biting you somewhere painful - at this stage of the season I'd rather be in our position than yours.

that is not what the question said or implied. Everyone knows at the moment we do not have a ground of our own.

But we have ploughed nearly £20k into helping our Landlords bring their ground up to Doc Martens Rules. It received an A grade last year and hopefully no-one has moved the goal posts (I like that one). It should receive an A grading this year as well.

4Bleats

by Dean

Just had a look at the Tamworth fanzine site http://4bleats.freeservers.com/4bmain.htm#top .

The author of the report on our game should be ashamed of themselves, personally I wouldn't be able to blatantly make things up like that just to satisfy my own twisted view of things, I know alot of it is tongue in cheek but it is just peppered with made up rubbish, the writer claims we dived all afternoon, interesting then that a foul, the first of the few we were awarded during the afternoon, was for a dive by one of their men early in the game. The only thing that was correct was the statement "we (Tamworth) never looked like scoring" .....

If the report was written to secure a response well it worked.......the report was one big joke, much like Tamworth.

Both Lilywhite and myself were at the same game and saw it in a totally different light - that's football. I accept there is some truth in both accounts - if people can't see that then they're too narrow minded. Both reports are also written if 'fanzine style', which is supposed to provoke controversy.

At least we all agree on one thing - the referee!

4 BTTB

4 Bleats has THE most accurate reporting of Tamworth F.C. games in the world. There were a lot of City players that spent the afternoon on their backsides looking for the referee to award them a free kick for nothing. You are correct that a lot of the wording is very tongue in cheek, but the facts cannot be disputed.

People on this forum have claimed Tamworth players were guilty of diving, yet City players played like perfect gentlemen - yeah, right. I'm sure the truth must lie somewhere in between.

The facts are:
Neither side could keep possession, leading to a scrappy game (entertainment value debatable).
If City shaded the first half, then Tamworth took the game to them in the second.
City scored from one of their rare chances, Tamworth scored two from their equally rare chances.
The referee was rubbish.
City should have had a penalty.
City players 'lost it' in the final ten minutes.
Tamworth took all 3 points.

I think you'll find all of the above in the 4 Bleats report, and from a Tamworth point of view, it is an entertaining account of the afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing an equally entertaining account on Lilywhite's website.

Interesting stats

by Dave

Out of interest I thought I would compare our league placing this weekend with the same weekend last season. It makes interesting reading.

Last season :

P 25 W 9 D 5 L 11 F 33 A 42 Pts 32 Pos 16th

This season:

P 25 W 9 D 5 L 11 F 38 A 41 Pts 32 Pos 15th

Very similar indeed, other than the fact we have scored five more and conceded one less, we are no better off this season than we were last, this is all very disappointing considering not so long ago we were all talking about the improvements this season and a possible top six finish. Of course that is not beyond us even now but we have got to get ourselves out of this rut we are in, and quickly.

HE AINT NO JAFFA.............

by PWW aka THE PROPHET

Priorities... Life or Football... This is the situation that Ian Cambridge finds himself in, as his lovely bride to be is only 3 weeks away from giving birth.
Is it no wonder then that Ian is very volatile at the moment, as he is walking a tight rope of emotions. So let this be a warning, think about your actions before approaching Ian, be articulate whilst talking to him, do not hassle him as there is a high chance that he could fall off his tight rope and explode with a barrage of physical or verbal abuse.

It's great to see Ian returning to his forward position, City looked much sharper in attack, with Cambridge holding the ball up and his first class link play.. Keep him there Chris.

I was at the game on Saturday and I have to say once again Adam Wilde was redundant on the left! I feel that since Shane Wardley has left Adam isn't being used as much. Now from my point of view Adam is our most dangerous player and if he is given the ball then things will happen! So why doesn't the rest of the team see this?? Surely they know what he can do if he is given the ball!!!!!

He has now been substituted in the last two games and it's not through him playing bad it's the through him not being in the game.

All the supporters who stand on the left always have the same opinion as me - GET IT OUT ON THE LEFT

But does this happen NO

Have we won this year??

Wilde

by Dave

Considering their fullback picked up an early booking for a foul on Wilde, you would have thought it made sense to get the ball to Wilde as often as possible, he would have had an advantage as the defender would not have been able to dive in for fear of getting sent off.

However, as you say, he hardly saw the ball and when he did he was surrounded by defenders, we should have switched the play more often from one flank to the other to create room for our wingers to exploit, but all we did was keep giving it to Wilkin who had a pretty poor game despite his goal, mind you it didn't help him that he got no protection from that pathetic ref.

Our main problem on Saturday was as it quite often is, giving the ball away cheaply, we have to improve on that aspect and quickly. I once watched a documentary on Sunderland and during his half-time rant Peter Reid kept saying "keep the ball, keep the ball, keep the f**king ball", it seems obvious to say but you can't play if you don't have the ball!

Tamworth game

by Keef

my comments here aren't sour grapes but a desperate cry for better standard officials at our level.

City should have killed the game off, and certainly were the better team, creating clearer chances, but without seeming biased, I truely was angry with the way the officials handled the game.

Football is a contact sport, and both teams produced some strong tackling, and some were well rewarded with bookings. However, the tackle which lead to Tamworths second goal was a good clean tackle and should never have been penalised. It's as though the ref wanted Tamworth to win.

Secondly, the linesman who gave offside against Ian Cambridge when he was put through by a Tamworth player stole yet another clear opportunity.

Matti Hann was pulled down in the box which should have been a penalty.

The ref gave a throw in to Tamworth when Kev Wilkin had to attended to after being chopped down....where was our free kick??

Basically the officials were a joke, and I would say this even if we had won.

Meanwhile, City do need a faster forward, and I hope Neil Pope settles in quickly and reproduces the form we know he can deliver. City played well and commitment was good, but we were lacking up front still.

I am not too worried about our position, and not happy either, as the team does and can play good football, but admittedly, Chris Tovey will have to kick start the revival very soon.

This time Tamworth can consider themselves very lucky, but next season please don't bring the Ref with you !!!!!!

Tamworth game

by Tammy

Read the rules sometimes

Ian Cambridge was offside - it did not matter that the ball came off a Tamworth player - the rule has been changed recently

Stamping is a red card offence so why did your No. 5 stay on after he had stamped on Mark Hallam

Why did your No 11 stay on after only four minutes of the game when he deliberately smashed his elbow into the face of a tamworth player running past him.

if you had been close enough you would have sen that your player played the man first and then the ball for the free kick from which we got the second

Your side had committed at least 10 fouls before tamworth committed 1 and who got the first booking - our player - don't watch the game with rose coloured glasses - the game is for men not whingers

Tammy do you have a brain?

by Spectator

The offside rule has been changed? when was this rule changed to say that a player is offside when he is given the ball by the opposition? you will find that the ball has to come from a player on his own team, I think it's you that needs to read up on the rules.

As for fouling, you seem to have a talent for blowing everything out of proportion and making things up. We committed 10 fouls before Tamworth committed 1 eh? what crap. You claim your first foul brought a booking, well you're wrong but it should have done because it was a foul given to us on the grandstand side and it was given because a player of your took an obvious dive (started as you meant to go on obviously).

Interestingly, two of your own fans had a go at your player who dived to earn the freekick from which you scored the winner. As he was coming off after your over-the -top celebrations had finished your two fans had a real go saying that kind of cheating gave Tamworth a bad name (couldn't agree more) and what was your players response? "it got us the points didn't it"

So Tammy, if the game is not for whingers as you say, why are you prattling on about bad tackles and fouls....you said it was a game for men....talk about a hypocrite!!!

offside

by Tammy

The laws state and has done for at least 2 years that if a player is in an offside position then he is offside - it does not matter who played the ball to him - home or away team - the player is deemed offside because he's in an offside position.

So numbskull, according to you if i was in an offside position and one of you players put a backpass straight to me I'm offside am I??? HA HA HA HA my god, how stupid can you be, I reckon one of your fellow fans should have a word with you because you are making yourself look pretty dumb.

a brain

by tammy

yes i do have a brain but you stupid lot just had to blame everyone else except yourselves for losing. The best chance of the first half fell to hallam only a minute after you scored. You huffed and puffed but you din't really create too much. I think Ian Cambridge is the best player in the league and has been for two years but you lot don't even have the sense to play him where he is best - midfield. Has for Hallam lieing down to get stamped on there is no excuse for stamping

My point was....

by Spectator

that Hallam wasn't stamped on and that you made it up like you have with so much of what you think you saw.

We do blame ourselves for losing because we should have defended better in the last five than we did. The fact is we created a number of clear goalscoring chances, whereas Tamworth had the one you mention straight after we scored that came courtesy of one of our defenders taking a airshot at the ball. Other than that all you did was put in a few hopefull longshots that troubled nobody. Any truthful Tamworth fan would admit that they expected to get nothing with 85 minutes on the clock but then you don't fall into that catagory.

Looking back...

by Lilywhite

at the KLFC forum around the time Tamworth lost 0-6 there, I see no posts from TFC supporters, I wonder why?
Indeed, we haven`t heard a peep out of the Tamworth possee all season until the last couple of weeks, once again I wonder why?...and why the unsolicited posts on this forum , have you not got a forum of your own? Wait until Mills gets crocked, then you will be back in the cart again. Tamworth will still go down, mark my words.

You're talking crap Lilyleaf. The only thing in your defence is that YES it did look a certain penalty when Rob Muchell brought down your No.7.But where did the extra time for the winning goal come from?Possibly from your No.10 kicking the ball away in dissent with the score at 1-1.Wasn't he the player whose play acting got Paul Hatton sent off at your place last year.Thats judgement for you!

You cannot even get that right

by Lilywhite

Before spouting , chech your facts ,chump
Scott Taylor was involved in the incident where your animal got sent off last season. NOT IAN CAMBRIDGE!

Secondly, a dive is a dive, and the free-kick for the winner was obvious cheating whatever you say.

And I haven't stopped laughing since! Trouble is, Lil, it's all right giving it - sometimes you have to learn to take it! You should stay up, so we'll see you next season.

More stories

by Spectator

Cambridge had nothing to do with the incident you mention. Hatton had a set to with Scott Taylor and punched him, Taylor responded by chucking the ball at him. The ref sent Hatton off for violent conduct (quite correctly), however Taylor was lucky not to follow him as I've seen players sent off for throwing the ball at an opponent.

Considering the incident happened in your area I doubt you were anywhere near enough to see exactly what happened, It happened right in front of me.

We don't like losing do we - is it becuase you must now realise you are in trouble as well or is it because you are a very sorry person who can't stand a dose of your own medicine - 2-1 seems quite a respectable scoreline.

I forgot the OTHER penalty we should have Had

by Keef

And Yes after reading the newspaper report I was reminded that one of the Tamworth players put BOTH hands up to stop the ball in the penalty area. Now my maths makes that TWO penalties that Tamworth were let off.

Officials like those on Saturday should not be allowed to take part in what was otherwise an entertaining game. The officials spoilt the game.

You may have "roared" your lot on as you put it but there was hardly a whimper out of you all game, and why? because you did nothing and got nowhere, and if it wasn't for our managers lack of tactical know how and are inability to put our chances away you would have lost, and you know it.

Next Saturday

by

An interesting fixture, Tamworth V Fisher. The Londoners came here ten days ago and beat us fair and square, there were NO sour grapes on here about that game. As I said we were beaten fair and square. I think they will do the same at Tamworth, as they are a better footballing and tactical side than Tamworth. It will be interesting to see the boot on the other foot , in terms of sour grapes. At least the `Tamuff` lot won`t be able to trash a rival side`s forum, as Fisher don`t appear to have one.

Tamworth v Fisher

by Dean

I don't know if Fisher will pull it off. If you remember they rode their luck against us then broke away and scored, the same as the apparently did at Newport, but I think - judging by saturday - Tamworth's luck will probably be too much for Fisher and of course if Mills has a word with the ref who knows what could happen!

Relegation battle.

by Sven

TFC have had an awful season so far, with the situation only recently improving.
This was Tamworths' first away win since mid Sept 00.
Without rubbing salt into CCFC wounds, in view of recent results, it would seem that a relegation battle is looming more and more for Cambridge than it is for Tamworth.
I'm an elderly Lambs supporter, and I trust you have no objections to me sending a message to your very enjoyable site.
Best of luck with the battle.

The same next year, will be especially welcome in our quest for the league title!
