Yesterday, March 27th, I saw Cats live for my first time. I was so excited!!!!! It was in Greensboro, NC. I wore my costume and a cute little girl thought I was in the play even though I had my wig off and no makeup on. But the performance was really awesome. The cats interacted with the audience and it was so cute. The there were some downsides to it. The prologue was too slow, and when Munkustrap lifted Victoria in the air, he almost dropped her. Yikes! In the Gumbie cat, a whole new tune was added on to the tap dancing sequence. During Rum Tum Tugger, Tugger danced with an audience member. At the end where he has his arms up in a V position while he's singing Abooouuuuut, he stops halfway to fluff up with wig. It was hilarious! When Mungo and Rumple started, Rumpleteazer sang Mungojerrie and Mungojerrie sang Rumpleteazer. When they watch the ming go down, afterwards Rumpleteazer said a cute little oh boy and Mungojerrie said Uh-oh, then after a five second pause, they erupt in nervous screams. It was so cute!! During the Jellicle Ball, Pouncival and Mistoffeles(was it them or some other cats?) did a toe touch/russian jump and they were off. Oh yeah I forgot during the invitation when Victoria does the solo dance, she was REALLY shaky and it looked like she was about to fall over at one point. Anyways, in the mating dance, Plato just held Victoria upside down. Opposite of the movie, Victoria was standing during almost the rest of it. Also, in the massive catnap, Cassandra and Mistoffelees were all over each other, so I'm assuming they were supposed to be a couple. Oh yeah, Cassandra and Misto were the only magical cats. So there was no Tantomile or Coricopat. Etcetera was also missing. During Gus, Gus suddenly ripped off his costume and turned into Growltiger. Since I had never seen Growltiger before, I had no clue as to what the characters were singing, but the Siamese cats cracked me up. The way the set changed was: it went all black and two curtains came down and then were lifted back up. Same thing for when it went away. Skimbleshanks was really good. during macavity when the kittens and the queens sing together, the drums sounded out their singing. when grizabella got sent to the heavyside layer, the giant tire went to the middle of the stage and it started to rise. then a saucer came down, grizabella boarded it and went bye-bye. deteronomy stayed on the tire the rest of the performance. i couldn't do that because it was really high and there was nothing to hold onto. then the tire went back and grizabella came back down so all the cast could get up and bow. Mistoffelees did an amazing no-handed cartwheel or an aerial cartwheel, whatever you call it. there were a bunch for cheers for grizabella and misto. not as much for munkustrap as i thought there would be, but i screamed my heart out for misto.hehe. oh yeah during intermission, i went down to the stage, where old deteronomy was and looked down in the orchestra pit. it wasn't even an orchestra! it was a bunch of keyboards and computers and a directors thingy mabob that he puts the music sheets on. when i went up there, old deuteronomy kept staring at me and looking away when i looked at him. i guess it was because i was in costume. but one time he waved at me!!! there was one voice throughout the whole play that sounded nasal and it was really loud so it kinda sounded funny. at the end, my friend and parents practically had to drag me out of the theatre. i was really sad i had to go. on the way out i saw Jesse Factor(Skimbleshanks) go out of the building, but i didn't get to say hi or anything because i was in the process of being dragged. well that was my experience, and i will never ever forget it in my whole life. I know I have left out a bunch of stuff that might be interesting but there will be a full report soon on my website.
Yeah I wish you could too.. seeing it live is really amazing.. even though you can't watch everything at the same time. Maybe if you save up enough money to buy a ticket.
You might be saving for a really long time though. lol i feel like i'm rambling. hehe i better shut up now!
I took my 8 yr old daughter to see the show in Ottawa On Canada in Mar 04. It was the first time for her as well and I though she was going to faint, she was sooo excited.
She knows all the songs already and I watched her lip syncing right along with them. As for me, I could go see the show every week and never get bored.
