We went to see the play Cats last night. What is wrong with you people, that was the WORST play I have ever in my life had the misfortune to sit thru. I went with high hopes because ever since i first heard about this play, i was soo excited to get to see it one day.
Well, that was the longest three hours i have had to sit thru. You could not understand one word that was being spoken or sang. Granted the costumes were pretty and the dancing was beautiful but that was it!!!!!!!!!!
I told my mother, anyone that says that they liked that is lying thru their teeth. Now, dont think i dont know what is good and not good. I took dance for 7 years, have gone to numerous plays, ballets and operas and have loved every one of them. But, this really takes the cake.

Hey Lois,

As a dancer....you're willing to take chances, aren't you?

Take a chance on this. Go rent the CATS video....and watch it all the way through, without interruption.

If you WILL feel differently afterwards. Promise! Really. Promise!

I'll add to that...

April 12 2004, 10:00 PM

I've heard many stories from Cats fans who didn't jump on the bandwagon the first time around. I didn't think much of it the first time I saw Cats either. I was expecting a PLOT and Cats doesn't have much of one. What it does have are fantastic characters going through a night of revelation. Once you stop looking for plot and start looking for themes, you find them in abundance: forgiveness, coming of age, responsibility, acceptance, and yet this is all set in a night of fun. It really is a great play, but like many great plays it can be hard to get into.

Take Kid's advice and rent the video. You may find a few things you missed the first time around.

Best wishes,

Talis

My first time....hehe

Well, I was introduced to the video first..I know not amazing but it really pushed me to where I am now...anyway: I was flipping thru the channels and got to PBS where I saw some dancing, and it was really weird, I had never heard of the show CATS before this, and I looked at my brother and said "OOO! This must be that show CATS!"...It was really strange to me. But PBS played almost every night that month and I watched it every night! Once I was throughly obbsessed my dad bought me tix for christmas to go see the tour in West Palm Beach (5th Nat'l Tour) I just remember walking thru the doors to the theatre and seeing the set and running my lil bum down to it! I had an aisle seat so I got a little bit of interaction but I was kinda far back (like Row M). But it was definetly a magical night for me! That's when I got hooked for certain

The best you're gonna get from me is when I see it this summer. I did go see it when I was really little (somewhere in the 5 yr old range, i think), but I only know I saw it then cause my parents have told me about me going to see it for years. Otherwise, I got "reintroduced" through the dvd a couple of years ago, and my thought was "D*mn, those guys must have ALOT of energy to do that night after night".

I remember...

April 7 2004, 3:38 AM

I remember... (this is when we watched the video in music class last year)

Being a bit freaked out at he start when there was a close up of Munkustrap

Getting excited during The RTT (the whole class was talking about how gross he was for weeks lol)

Liking the wigs (Demeter's in particular for some reason) and thinking the costumes were really awesome

My music teacher saying it was really amazing how each costume was different and unique, and me wondering how they could all be different (all of them except Tugger, Griz and Old D looked the same to me pretty much)

Enjoying the fast pace music from the Jellicle Ball

Getting bored during Gus The Theatre Cat, wondering if Tugger would come back

Being freaked out by Macavity

Thinking that I've heard Memory before, but thinking it had a slightly differnt tune (???)

I remember having the video for ages but I never got round to watching it properly until about a week after Cats closed in London, I really have the worst timing, lol.

~*Don't worry. As long as you hit that wire with the connecting hook at precisely eighty-eight miles per hour the instant the lightning strikes the tower... everything will be fine.*~

When I saw CATS for the first time, it was on Broadway. I was about 4ish. My mother took me to NY for my birthday and knew I loved animal cats...she had seen it before and really enjoyed it. I have the memory of Victoria coming off the stage and grasping hands with me. I was amazed. I became hooked ever since...=)
