I say a production of Cats in Europe a long time ago (92)and saw another one this year. I would like to know when they changed the show from the Pekes and Pellicles battle to the song with the pirates, Griddlebone and the Siamese cats.
Does anyone have an answer to this, and why it was changed??
Growltiger's Last Stand was always there,Its in Broadway,London and every other production. If you're talking about Growltiger insted of Pekes and Pollicles just before The Jellicle Ball ...That IS different <(o_O)>...Dont ask me...I 'tupid

As Nekonyan said, Growltiger's Last Stand has always been there. The current US Tour has taken Peke's and the Pollicle's out of the show in order to make it a shorter show. Growltiger's Last Stand wasn't put in the video because 1) John Mills wasn't able to play the role of Growltiger, and 2) RUG wanted to keep the video to about 2 hours, so there are other little bits of choreography that was cut out as well.
Thank you for the answer. I just don't remember it I guess. ? old age ha-ha!!
Can you tell me why Jemima is called Sillabub in some shows?? My 8 year old would like to know. She doesn't like the name Sillabub and wants to know.
Thanks in advance
Sillabub either means 2 things
1.cream
or
2.cross between Silly and Bellzebub(the devil)
In London she is called Jemima.Jemima is a person in the Bible. In the Japanese version, there is both a Jemima who is different looking and Sillabub is yellow. No matter what the production they look the same...I dont know why her names are different.

When the production was first being produced on Broadway, there had been some controversy about the name "Aunt Jemima" for that syrup...mainly because 'Jemima' used to be a popular name for a black woman. Part of the controversy also came from the depiction of a "mammy" to advertise the syrup. To avoid any possible problems, the producers of CATS decided to change the name from Jemima (Original London name) to Sillabub.
The name Sillabub is an actual name made up by T.S. Eliot (who wrote the poems which CATS is based on), whereas, Jemima was made up by Trevor Nunn. The name 'Sillabub' is supposed to be a mix meaning of silly and beelzebub (mischevious/a little devil). Out of all the productions of CATS around the world, Sillabub is used more often than Jemima. Although some productions have made each name into two different characters and included both characters in their cast, most productions have only one or the other. Essentially in these productions, aside from the name difference, the two characters are portrayed generally the same and do the same things within the show. I tend to like the name 'Sillabub' better than 'Jemima'.

I've seen it live a total of 22 times. I saw Broadway twice, the fourth national tour about 4 times, and the fifth (and current) tour about 16 times.
I have no idea how many times I've seen the DVD. Lots of times.
