I went and saw Cats at the dinner theatre in Minneapolis. I was wondering if all the stage productions were all different at each other performances in other states? I would like to know because the dvd that I have has a totally different stage and lighting? Thanks.

The Stage

The CATS Stage set differs according to "production." The two long-running stages (Winter Gardens & New London) were both designed by John Napier, and were to represent the "Junkyard" that CATS is basically known to use. The TOUR Productions also seem to be using the "Junkyard" motif. Some of the International Tours may deviate from this, but most of the International and National Tours are "Junkyard" sets... Napier's design also liked to place a TIGER's face somewhere in the center of the dance floor...

However, the "Regional" shows use different sets - depending upon their directors and Stage designers. Some productions have set the musical in an abandoned Amusement Park, an old Theatre, and I believe even a shopping Mall.

The Video, I believe, uses the UK Tour I or II set.

Respectfully submitted,
