Hi I am 9 and just saw Cats this week. The show had Sillabub in a blue cat costume and they said she was the blue cat. Why?
Also why is Rumpus Cat in the DVD and not in the show. We had a really funny Griddlebone and nit the scary Siameses this time. Ithink it is because the stage was so small. Thet only had 17 cats all together on the stage.
From the sound of your description, you must have seen a regional version of the show. Sillabub is not normally "blue." Lately, in the US Tour (V), her colors are very similar to the UK (Video) Jemima. A small set and only 17 characters further reinforce the idea that this was a regional show. I find it interesting that you saw "Griddlebone" if they did not have the Siamese. The reason being that in "Growltiger's Last Stand" Griddlebone and the Siamese are part of the action, with the Siamese being the "enemies" of Growltiger.
As to the Rumpus Cat, he does not appear unless the show uses the "skit" of "The Awefull Battle of the Pekes & the Pollicles." This segment (done between "Old Deuteronomy" and "The Jellicle Ball") is often cut from the show for time reasons, and does require secondary costumes and props for the performers. The Rumpus Cat only appears in this skit, so no skit - no Rumpus Cat.
The idea of the show is to enjoy the experience, and I certainly hope you did - whether it was the Tour show or a regional show...
