I saw the opening show in Pittsburg on Tuesday and was thrilled with the performance. I am a ballet instructor and was impressed with the jellicle ball, of course, but especially the Mistoffellees number. The performer brought so much life to the character and was such a clean dancer that my entire class went to see the performance on Friday night. Again, the show was great but another performer danced the Misto piece and he did not do it justice! He was very unimpressive and acted like he was just going through the steps. The choreography for this dance is terrific but he could not pull it off. I hope he is only filling in temporarily.
It was probably one of the understudies for the role that you saw on Friday night. This cast is fairly new yet and it may have been one of his first times covering the role in front of an audience. Given time, I'm sure he would improve. Sorry to hear it didn't go so well this time around for him. Perhaps next time and as he gets more used to covering the role...
hi! the misto you saw was the understudy for charles, the original misto who is out for 5 weeks with a groin injury. justin will be taking his place permanently as the new misto and charles will be doing pouncival instead.
Why are they replacing Charles because of a groin pull? I know several members of last year's cast who were out for a lot longer and were not replaced? Charles is a much better actor and dancer. Justin does not give the Misto character any feeling or depth. I think Troika has made a big mistake with this decision. Well, those who have not seen Charles perform will not know what they are missing. But if they have already seen the show, they will notice a big difference.
