Couple questions, Im glad I found this forum. Thanks in advance for your time....
So, I own a 58 Fairlane, 352 Interceptor motor. The heads on this are EDC-E, Can anyone shed some light on this? These codes arent something Im familiar with. Not even close. Im planning on going through the motor with some upgrades, but am curious if these heads are worth re using, or I should seek a higher HP 390 head?
Im not trying to build this into a killer, just reliable durable good HP is what Im looking for. If the stock heads will be able to handle a stroke and bore, and a good sized 4 barrel, I'd just as soon keep them.

I'm here to warn you that I'm not the best to answer this but I do have a great book to quote from...
I was curious as you are on this one so I busted out my copy of "High Performance Ford Engine Parts Interchange" and they state the following: "... It is important to remember that most "FE" engines had the same valve sizes throughout. For example, the 332/352/360/361/390 & 410 all had 2.02-inch intake and 1.55-inch exhaust valves. Differences lie mainly in combustion chamber size (compression ratio) and port size." From what this book says about your heads (yes, they have a ton of info on your motor) it seems that you had between 69cc & 72cc chambers which for a 352 is low average. From what I can tell FE heads is FE heads unless you're looking to throw massive amounts of cash at this thing & make a fire-breathing monster out of it.
I am going to list a few books you ought to check out. I bought these three on Amazn for less than 30 shipped. First: "How to build max performance Ford V-8s on a budget." I'm new to building engines and it makes it breaks it down & keeps it fairly simple. Number two on my list is "Bill Carroll's Fooorrd V8 Performance Guide" It's called the "Stocker's Bible" and it's a pretty old book, first printed in 72 but it gives you part combos, and the how & why of those combos. I love the specification info it gives you on Ford's V8's; It lists the motor, it's hp, what carb, which cam, etc etc. VERY informative & I think it'll be very helpful with what you're trying to do.
Last but not least, the afore-mentioned "High Performance Ford Engine Parts Interchange." This book tells you the history behind which ever part and which part you want to use for which type of motor (stock, warmed over, race motor, etc) and part #s, of course.
One more thing: Why do you want to bore & stroke it? How much power do you want? I ask this because your motor, with a cam & a bit more compression (9.6:1, I believe) made something like 300 hp & 360 lb ft tq... (Now I can't find which book said that.. maybe it was online...)

If you look between the spark plugs on any fe head you will find the date code like 68ae meaning the heads was produced in 1968 . Also for a 352 you find the numbers you put up . For a 390 the numbers will be 6090-G ..for a 406 6090-C for a 3 duce 406 , 6090-S for a 3 duce t-bird ...6090-N for cj heads and 6090-H for 427 replacment head 6090-F for mid riser , 6090-J high riser . There are more for 427 as well The power transforms a great deal in hp from the first to the last I described .
