The American Red Cross will soon be following the lead of the American Heart Association with the new CPR guidelines for the layperson, which I believe address changes only in chest compressions and rescue breathing...I haven't seen anything regarding changes to the protocol for clearing blocked airways. Currently we are still teaching the abdominal thrust plus finger sweep for unconscious adult victims. For children and infants, the finger sweep is not done unless you can see the object in the mouth after abdominal thrusts. Hope this helps!
