What "C-Spine" means

by Mike

C-Spine refers the the Cervical Spine (neck)
C-Spine Precautions include the use of a Cervical collar (neck brace), Blocks or other methods to keep the head aligned to the body, Back Board and straps. After the collar is put on the patient they are then secured to the board...blocks placed on both sides of the patient's head, then the head is taped to the board, and the rest of the body is secured to the board.
I forgot to mention that before the patient is secured to the board we make sure that the patient is able to move their arms and legs, and able to feel when you touch their fingers or toes.
This is also repeated after the patient is secured to the board...to determine if there has ben any changes in the patient's condition.
