Here can you discuss about the Sports- and Shoot'em Up Games to Commodore 64.
Superstar Ice Hockey and SSI Computer Baseball

First I'll start with S.I.H. Is there a way to create a team and have it saved? I don't know if it's one of my settings or my emulator (ccs64), but everytime I create a new season/team and play a game it reverts back to the season/team I deleted. If anyone knows how to create a new team/season, please let me know.
Second, with S.S.I. I get one of two screens. The first one is green and says, "Let's Play Ball...Loading Programs Now". Of course I wait and wait and nothing happens. I load a different prg file and get the opening screen to come up. As soon as the real bad version of "take me out to the ball game" starts, the screen goes funky and I can't make out any of the words or graphics. If anyone knows how to correct this or has a working copy who may have had the same problem, please let me know.
What a game!! I had the original version in Commodore but I lost it some years ago (the US version). I think the answer to this question is as the other Mindscape games as Omni Play Horse Racing or Superstar Soccer: press F9 if you have CCS64 and go to options. Go to saving and you will have 3 options: Disable (does not save at any time), Ask at diskchange (when you change the disk you put yes to save, but in this case it is only one disk) or Continuously (Automatically saves the game after every match). Choose the last one and I think it will work. (I use Continuously at Superstar Soccer and Ask At Diskchange in Omni-Play and in both cases it worked). Then, tell me if it works.
I hope ANY of you can help me out with my problem. There is this game that I ABSOLUTELY love! It's called OMNI-PLAY BASKETBALL. I had it once when I was a kid, but I lost the game somehow.
I recently bought a used Commodore 128 and Omni-Play Basketball from Centsible.com. The game worked great... until I found out that the second side of the disk doesn't work!!! So now, I'm REALLY itching to buy this game from ANYONE who has it. If ANYONE has this game and would like to sell it, let me know. Or if anyone knows of any sites that sell this game, please let me know. Centsible.com only had 1 of this game in stock, so they can't send me a replacement.
Please help out a fellow-C64 lover. Thanks for all your help in advance.
Although I do not have an immediate solution to your problem, it was refreshing to know that there is another person who is longing to play Omni-Play Basketball. I had an Amiga computer several years ago and I played it all the time. It became a personal favorite. However, over time my computer began to increasingly break down, and than pump money into a fading system, I decided to sell it and all my software.
The memory of the game did not fade though. Once I bought my Dell computer I downloaded an Amiga emulator and several games, including Omni-Play Basketball. I was so excited when the game ran and seemed to be 100% operational. However, to my dismay I discovered a small but crucial bug in the program... during a timeout (when you make substitutions, pick strategies, etc.) the screen would not scroll up, so that it was impossible to see what you were doing.
The rest of the game though... the sounds, graphics and animation and EXACTLY the same as I remember. The game-play itself is fine.
I don't know how badly you want to play this game... if you just want to relive the memory or if you want to start a quest for the championship trophy. To me, this is the ultimate tease, being so close to playing one of my all-time favorite games, but not close enough to have total control. I'm seeking a fully functional game. I know you played the Commodore version, but maybe this would cover your needs?
I have also seen Commodore versions available for download as well. I haven't tried these yet, but if I can't find a good working copy I may explore this option.
There are several sites where you can download the emulator and the game. WinUAE is the name of the emulator I use, it has an excellent readme file to get you started.
If you have any luck with an emulator version, or if you know of any place where you can purchase a PC version (did they even make a PC version?), please let me know by posting another message. If I find out anything more I'll do the same.
For my ever growing Epyx Shrine ( http://home.nexgo.de/cybergoth ) I'm searching the manual for 'Break-Dance'. Can someone please either type/scan it in, or point me in the right direction where to find it online?
Hi Peter,
I am one of the biggest fans of the game ever and thought it was amazing for its time (although my parents missed my childhood due to me being cooped up plaing!) Have you ever heard of anyone doing anything with one of the real small sides in the game? i.e. Newport County and Reading etc?
Can you remember which team the first person who completed it used? I reckon the challenge should be reopened to the next person to do it with a 3rd Div side! Although we may have to pull Howard Kendall out of retirement!
I remember sending off for the special folder for the game a only a few years ago but was told Scanatron had gone bust. Is this true? Also was the game released on any other format?
Anyway thanks for a great game
Lee
(Only problem was the bleedin key thing required....took an age to find out the correct code on the instruction book!)
We have a league going and right now we are using Microleague, which we have always fel tis the best statistical game out there. Does anybody know any else that are very accurate.
The problem we are haviung with the league is that we don't get boxscores after games, so we have to manually track each play. We are using an Atari emulator and I think the 1984 version of Microleague (it is in black and white.) Do either of the Commodore versions have boxscores?
Does anyone know what teams were in this game? I can remember the 80 Phillies, Astros, & Royals, 27 Yanks, 75 Reds & 75 Red Sox. Does anyone know of a site with the teams listed? I'm on page 11 at Google and still no luck.
In your review of The Double, under the title you state the game can have 2 players. Now I haven't played the game for awhile but I cant remember there ever being a two player option. Am I wrong and if so tell me how to do two players!
Thank you
Lee
Soccer is best playable I say, but if you like a cool league mode try Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, also the oldie International Soccer from Commodore is a classic. Cool manager game is Football Manager.
Other good football/soccer sims on the C64 are Emlyn Hughes, Matchday II and International Soccer. Personally I prefer managerment games, some suggestions are, Superstar Soccer, and M.I.S.L both of which combine playing and managerial aspects. Match Of The Day, The Double and Tracksuit Manager are all good management sims.
Maybe is this forum not the right place, but I'm looking for a sleuth game for the C64. I think it was called Murder! and it was also reviewed by Zzap!64 back in the ol' days. (Around '89 - '91 ?)
It's something like Cluedo but it's for the C64, and you have to solve murders or "who is the guilty one?".
I think it received about 98% from Zzap!64 and there was also a Amiga version which scored a bit lower.
I looked up at Arnold's but it doesn't have the game, or the title might be different...
Anyone heard of it and knows where I could it get?
I've had trouble with both my downloaded copies of this Mindscape classic. Firstly I downloaded off STADIUM 64, then whilst booting (Vice emulator) the C64 screen does not respond after RUN is entered, just a blinking cursor? I downloaded the game again, this time off the LEMON site only to encounter the exact same problem!
Is this because of: my emulator? or, because there are no working downloadable versions available?
Can anyone help me out here?
has anybody actually worked their version?
The same thing happenned 12 years ago after purchasing the game, and I do not wish to go thru this childhood trauma again!!!
Well, Superstar Soccer works 100%. Your problem and maybe others, is that you load the first file in the *.d64-image which isn't the starting file. You need to load the second file on the *.d64-image to start the game.
Hello!
I'm looking for a racing game that I used to have and that I cannot find on Stadium64, but sadly I do not remember how it was called:
It was top view without scrolling, the whole track was visible at all times. The game allowed multiple players (I think it was four) and there were oil puddles and gravel on the track as obstacles. Your car could also become damaged and you needed to drive over spanners to repair it.
The best part of the game was a track editor that even allowed you to place ramps and the like.
I think it was also released in a compilation called Game, Set and Match 2 at that time.
Sorry guys!
I could not find it in the racing games index, but I did not see that Game, Set and Match 2 is featured seperately on Stadium64.
It's Championship Sprint.
So please feel free to ignore this post!
I expect this kind of question is asked a lot (my apologies for posting it), but I need suggestions for a good shoot 'em up. What I'm really looking for is a vertical scroller (probably set in space) with plenty of action, good responsive controls, but no long boring death sequence. I just want something to let loose with - something really playable.
Any suggestions can be posted here or e-mailed to me. Sincrest thanks in advance.
Well we don't do that in England and as we invented the good language i think you shud do what we say....therefore stop putting a / or a \ before, after or during your name OK!
I will still continue to end my messages with /and my surname, because I like it. Do you think it's normal to use several names and responding to your own messages? Remember you aren't so anonymous that you might think.
