problems with keyboard

by kris

hi

first of all i think it is great that we can play all those old games again

woooohooo i been looking for years for all these games , i loved them way back , but then of course with the new comps i couldn't run them anymore ,so i think it is great that someone made a site and gathered them all .

but now my problem lol , i downloaded some games and also downloaded an emulator called vice 1.4 , for some reason i seem to have alot of problems using my keyboard during the games , i downloaded wintergames and only thing that seems to work is practise mode for speed skating , all the other things i can get to start but it never starts , i don't have a joystick , i use my keyboard for the games , but it seems like it doens't recognize the keyboard or something , very weird , any help ??

help with the keyboard

by ala

At the top of the window on VICE, click the "settings" drop-down menu. Go down to "Joystick settings." In the joystick in port 1 box, there should be a drop down menu that says "none." Choose a Keyset. At the bottom, there are 3 buttons...config keyset a, calibrate joysticks, and config keyset b. Whichever keyset you've chosen, config it. A not of warning, on some games, like "Steeplechase," you need to config both keysets and assign one to port 1 and the other to port 2. For some reason, only configing one won't work to get you into the game. In the case of "Steeplechase," the fire key config for port 2 is required to start the game. This might be too late to help the original poster, but maybe it could help someone else!

question about Trans64

by

Hi!
Have been searching a lot on the net about this but cant find nay info so
have to disturb you with a silly question...*must be*...
I have done my own cable and are using trans64...I LOVE this program and
utils I must say, BUT...have one problem, I send over my files from
virtual disk to the c64 disk, but is´nt it possible to send over more than
one game to every disk, because when I send over the second one it
overwrites the first...do you have any help section on the net or do you
know what I do wrong?

Sorry for my bad english...

Pure Stat Baseball

by Pete Iovino

Hi, would like to say thanks for keeping up the site, gr8 job!.....I'm trying to use Pure Stat baseball and everything works fine until I choose a stadium, then it just freezes right up on me (tried with original 3 stadiums and stadium disks same thing). If you have any insight to why this is happening, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Pete Iovino.

P.S. If we can get this problem cleared up, was wondering if you would be able to locate the creator disk that came out maybe 1yr after the main disks. It's used to create players and adds to the player database

need help remembering c64 functions

by

I just hooked up my old commodore 64 to my TV last night, and was able to load my games and play. BUT, does anyone know how to go 'back' to the disk menu screen? For example, on the blue start screen, you type 'load "menu",8,1' it loads, you type 'run' , and then the disk menu pops up and you pick a game. Once you're playing the game and want to play another, can you get back to this menu screen, or even back to the blue start screen without having to turn the computer off, then on again? I forget all the shortcut key functions, but was sure there was a way to get back at least to the blue start screen.

I'd appreciate anyone's help!
Thanks, Kim

It depends what emulator you are using. However most have an option to take a snapshot (from top menu) which is an image of the game at that time. This is basically a save game, and to run it just select load snapshot instead of loading up game. Hope this helps as the game would be impossible without a save function.
Lee

Ps Has anyone managed to compltete the double? I managed it a couple of months ago for the first time but as this was on emulator i feel like a cheat as a seaon only takes a couple of hours. Anyone managed it on C64?

I've managed to sort out my problems. Thanks for your help. Can I ask how a season only takes a couple of hours as I still find it takes a good while. All the results and the gates etc are still a pain in the arse. Do you know of a way to speed this up.
Anyway I've not yet managed to complete the double although I'm well on my way. I've never done on c64 as this would have taken half a lifetime. Any good tips?

Speed Up

by Lee

Again depending on your emulator. However most (well all i have come across) have a speed up option. Dont forget a C64 is much slower than a modern Pc and thus by checking thru your menu's (at top of emulator) you should find an option that allows the emulator to increase game speed to Pc ability. Mine had options of normal speed, 200% and unlimited, which advanced emulator up by 1000%. Obviously the gate time and results printing was over in less than 2/3 mins and even watching a game now only took about 6/7 mins (useful for watching irrelevant FA Cup games.)
I dont know any real tips except for i have only ever completed the game with Derby County by taking them up thru 3 divisions, and never been able to with any other club. I may soon start on the ultimate challenge, getting Newport Count promoted never mind winning the league! Anyway look at all your menu's and see if there is a speed up option.

Influential.

by

Yes Leeroy, I've downloaded it on your advise of your messages and am wondering where the hell it was when i needed it most 15 years ago (its got one of Villa's crappest EVER sides which was relegated in old 86!), the speed of named teams, attendances, scores etc. do seem slow, but the game was well ahead of its time, a little more sophisticated than Football Manager also. The menus also resemble those of Tracksuit manager, same maker probably. Highly, influential on the first version of Champ Manager, well methinks anyway...

Up the Villa!!!

Nostalgia

by Leeroy

Half the fun of the game nowadays is the nostalgia factor. Seeing Garth Crooks on MOTD is a laugh considering I just signed from Tottenham. It is also funny when players like Gascoigne are crap and young.
I agree the game was head of its time, espec with crowd trouble etc. Have you tried speeding up the emulator? Imagine how slow it used to be on the C64!!!

its slow because its doing a lot with only a 6502 14mhz processer

by

The computer plays all 33 league matches. Each player takes into consideration his position, the positioning of his team mates, plus the whereabouts of his opponents and the ball before deciding upon his own movement.
Players individually decide upon their direction of movement, who they are going to mark, when they will shoot and where they will pass to. Individual ability controls their accuracy of passing and shooting while their strengths affect running and winning tackles. Errors, may happen when passing or shooting and can also occur as a result of a player being harassed by an opponent or shooting on the volley etc. Each player has the knowledge of what every other player on the pitch is doing. remember this is for EACH player in Both TEAMS in ALL 33 MATCHES. then there are club finances for ALL the Teams YES the computer managed teams have the same income and wages ect. to pay as well as injury, scouts ect. so i would say that the game was running fast considering the amount of calculations that were being done.
