Hi all,

My friends William Faith and Monica Richards, known to their fans as Faith & The Muse, are beginning what they are calling the most important work of their lives - it's called "Ars Terra", and it's an Eco-Animal Sanctuary about 60 miles north of L.A., 160 acres of natural beauty and wonder that they are dedicated to preserving, protecting, and nourishing....to learn more, read about AT on their website at this link:

http://www.mercyground.com/arsterra/index.html

Funds are urgently needed to help make this wonderful project a reality, and I want to do my part, so I have scoured Raven Radio's music library and compiled a huge lot of CDs - 64 of them, to be exact - to put up for auction on eBay.
100% of the money raised in this auction will be sent to William and Monica for Ars Terra. The shipping fee of $6.89 is what the post office tells me it will cost to send this 14+ pound box, filled with hours of great music, to the lucky person who wins the auction.
A complete list of the CDs in the lot can be viewed at the eBay listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280125005222

If you enjoy gothic, industrial, and darkwave music, this would be a great way to enhance your music library AND support a worthy cause at the same time!
If you are NOT interested in bidding, then PLEASE forward this email to everyone you know who enjoys this type of music. The more bids we get, the more money I can send to Ars Terra. Your support is very badly needed and very much appreciated!
Please also feel free to send some $ directly to Ars Terra yourself : )
Thank you..........Rev. MDG

Looking for 1 person!

by Sarah (no login)

Hello, I am looking to open up a gothic clothing/accessory store online! I am looking for 1 person who would be interested in working with me. I would like to make shirts, purses, skirts, hair accessories, choker necklaces, etc..for the online store. We could make these items using different materials, like black velvet, crushed velvet, embroidery...very beautiful materials!

Also, I don't have a sewing machine, so the person I work with would have to own one. I have never used a sewing machine, but I would be willing to learn how. I can come up with many different design ideas however. Then, I can help assist you with the materials and the sewing.

Once we have some items made, we can then get our own store website. If someone is interested in buying one of our items, then they can e-mail one of us.

I also think these colors would be cool to use for items-black, dark red, dark purple, blue, green, some white..it just depends on what we are creating.

I am looking for someone who is motivated, loves gothic clothes/accessories, is honest and a hard worker.
I live in Waterford, Michigan. So, if you live close to Waterford, Michigan, then I would love to hear from you!

Hope to hear from you soon,
Sarah.
Here is my e-mail address-ZywickiS@aol.com

Hey, Sean!

by (no login)

Hey, Sean! John McNichol/formerly John Coleman again! How goes it?

Well, we had baby number 6 last summer. Life is getting more and more like that old Talking Heads song: "How did I get here?" Things are going GREAT! I love your show! My own radio show out here bit the dust on KBVM after 3 years, but I bounced back. I've signed a contract to get my book published, but you kno whow it goes...it don't mean nuthin', til you have the thing in your hands!

God bless. Say hi to the folks for me!
Your friend always,

John

Saw Your Stuff On Revver

by (no login)

I've seen your stuff on Revver.com and like it. Please stop. I don't need the competion for weirdness. Haha, just kidding . . . sort of. There's a very informative site about uploading to Revver and the Revver culture at Revverberation.com and I have a blog at http://marquisdejolie.blogspot.com/ where I'm going to feature your latest Revver entry under the title "Stiff Competition For My Weirdness Niche."

Love your music, too.

Thanks, Marquis! It always warms my heart to hear that someone out there enjoys my stuff. Wierdness is an art, 'tis true! And you can bet your bottom dollar there's plenty more wierdness to come in the weeks and months ahead.

Glad you like my tunes, too! Ben and I will be working on a pile of new Two Guys and An Effects Box stuff soon, and actually have our first album on its way very shortly (just putting the finishing touches on it as we speak). Keep tabs on my blogs for updates...muwahahaha!

I'll definately swing by and have a look at your stuff too. Wierdos of the world unite!

Music usage

by (no login)

Sure thing, that's cool. The only thing I would ask is that credit be given (which I'm sure you figured anyway). The only time I would ask for some kind of liscencing fee or whatever is if it was going to be used in a commercial project of some kind. But if it's just for what is essentially a non-profit demo, then the only "payment" I would ask for is credit for being the dude who did the music and a link to the website wouldn't hurt either...).

Fire me an e-mail, let me know which songs you'd like to use, and I'll send you higher quality versions to use than the ones on the website (I have CD-quality versions I can send as high-bitrate mp3's).

In semi-related news, I should be a little more available shortly, as my current temp job ends on the 30th. So if the audio drama is still a go (I was under the impression it was pretty much a dead project by now, but if you're still game to go then so am I!), then I'll get those lines to you some time in the first two weeks of January.

Hi Becky. Let me first of all introduce myself:- I was involved in TEC from the start with Jaco and Thomas (I think it was previously called Das Elend), left the band for a while due to studies, and joined them a bit later again after the album was made. I also toured with TEC. Jaco did die last year. I attended his funeral - it was very sad. Thomas is currently in London. Jaco was a driving force in TEC, and there are no intentions to restart TEC. Hope this helps. Mike

Thank you for letting me know, Jaco will be sorely missed, TEC where an amazing contribution (to me and my partner)in our spritual world of music. Whatever you decide to do in the future we wish you all the very best and happiness. Thank you kindly for all you and TEC have done to enrich our musical depths.
We wish you all the best.
ETC were beautifull.

by (no login)

Dear Becky and Tim,

I will pass your kind words on to Thomas. Thank you. Jaco had high standards, which he unfortunately took out mostly on himself and those close to him. The TEC is a testimony to the intensity of Jaco's musical drive and Thomas' creativity. Sadly I think I understand Jaco's restlessness a little bit better only now. All the best to you too. Take care.

Hi Z! Lordy can't believe it's about a year since I posted here but just thought I'd check it out today. Glad to see you're still running the board and still alive and well and (presumably) living in the balmy part of Canada--we had hail in Ontario yesterday!

anyway, call me naive or just not using the computer so much lately but I've never seen a spammer before--hopefully that one you gave the boot to will be the first and last.

I'm looking forward to the sixth Star Wars episode coming out May 19th. It's supposed to be the darkest of the lot--finally get to find out why Anikin became Darth. I probably won't go to the theatre on the first day as I don't like the crowds and I definitely won't be dressing up as Leia in her harem Jabba the Hut costume but will enjoy it none the less. have to confess I've been a fan since way back--hard to believe it's almost thirty years since the first one! By the way if you are into it can you tell me the connection or difference between being a Sith and being called Darth something. I mean on the flip side Jedis are only called Jedis.

May everything good be with you. cheers, nightsword

Re: Question For ONLY TRUE GOTHS !

It isn't a "religion." This is a common mis-conception. It has nothing to do with religion. It's about fashion, music, an appreciation for the beauty in darkness that most people are afraid to even LOOK at, let alone recognize as a form of beauty, and of not wanting to conform to the forced-upon-us ideals of society simply because we're told to do so by the mass media and our peers. As for why black, because it looks DAMN nice and goes with anything.

What consittutes a real goth?

by Loki_nemo (no login)

This is something thats always baffled me- How can you tell if youre a Real Goth? and should it be capitalised?

Beauty in darkness- check
Apreciation of music/goth fashion- check
Black clothes- check
Overwhelming desire to go to New Orleans- check
Strange fantasies about Popy Z Brite characters- check
Slightly masochistic outlook on life- check
A bizarre life which can be read not so much like a soap opera but as a Nine Inch Nails album- check

Oh, fantastic, i must be a real goth. Thats that one cleared up then.

Love to yas!

You know, I always wondered that...

by K (no login)

I feel somewhat goth, I suppose, but it's so hard to find a definition. I've done so much research online and the best I can find is "no one can tell you you're not goth" or "If you feel goth, you are" and definitions like creative, feels outcast, etc...yet I also know people that would call a person a "wannabe" if they don't listen to Bauhaus and think they're a vampire.

I mean, hell, I'm creative, somewhat dark in my thoughts, etc.--but I also fall very strongly into the "hippie" category and my music preferences run more to oldies (Beatles, etc.) and classical. Some people would say "hey, why not, you're goth" and other people wouldn't be able to stop laughing long enough to tell me to fuck off...

Hi Z and Tom (kiltmonkey?): Sorry I took so long getting back to y'all. Got busy with work stuff, then with garden stuff. We've had so much rain this spring that I have to get out there in between downpours. Anyway, glad to hear you didn't stick with that collection job, Z. I'm not sure what personality types actually like that kind of job but from what I know about you it wouldn't be you. Don't worry about being poor--nothing lasts forever and money isn't everything. The few people I know who one could say have more than enough money don't seem to be that happy. In fact they seem to derive their happiness from holding their financial status over others rather than from enjoying the money itself or using some of it to help others. Anyway, I won't go down that road any further. I'm sure you've come across or will come across that type in your travels. Speaking of travels why is Tom heading back for the hills and dales of Scotland? Could it be he just likes the Scotch??? Up the Irish! Cheers, nightsword

That it does! After my big spiel about people disappearing, everyone disappeared! I've got a new website up, not as glitzy as Gothside once was, but it's a quick and easy way for me to keep in touch with folks an network with other creative types. You can find me over at:

http://profile.myspace.com/users/3689167

Don't Panic if the page doesn't load the first time you try, they've been doing a lot of maintenance on the site recently, so it's been up and down. But I've got some tunes of mine up there, and I keep a journal there as well. Plus I'm always adding pics and whatnot. And you can see some of the staggeringly creative wierdos I've been hanging with lately.

Congrats Z! A new website after how many ages without one? Before I try to access and bookmark it I thought I'd better leave a message here--in case the crappy dial-up I have doesn't respond which it 50% of the time doesn't. But I guess 50% is better than 0%. Anyway, will this message board still work for awhile or is it sortof simulcast at the new sight....er, make that "site." I'm definitely not a techy person so don't really understand how all this stuff works anyway. Feeling a little hungover today so hope I'm making some sense here. Where is Big D. when you need him???--prob over there somewhere having a fling or two (highland fling that is). Cheers, nightsword.......and once again, a big, fat, three-glasses-full congrats on the new site....going to try and check it out right now.

well, I warned ya

by nightsword (no login)

Had a look at your new site, Z. Like I said previously above, about 50% of the site loaded--well, that's not exactly what I said but that's what happened. I couldn't find/figure out how to send a message on the new site. It kept asking for a password--the "forum" seemed more like myspaces forum and not yours. Had a look at the "view more pictures" but only two came through. Was going to make a comment but again it asked for a password. So here's the comment (only saw the first two pics--I think you had the black & white one on the old site too)--anyway, you look young--even the moustachios don't make you look older--yet somehow you look like an old soul--very pensive, thoughtful, deep thinker--but then I sorta knew that from your words and your music--still love "regrets." And wow, 26 friends!!! I only got to see pics of the ones on the main page (again my system failed!) but gee I number about 7 really really really close friends and perhaps another 10 good friends. Lots of "acquaintance-type" friends besides but 26...I'm impressed! Cheers, nightsword

Re: well, I warned ya

Well, to be fair, it may not have been you that was having the problem - myspace has been getting a lot of technical work done on it over the past few weeks, so it may have been during one of those problematic periods that you tried to get on.

In answer to your query, you can rest assured that I'll be leaving this forum up. You're quite right, the forum over there isn't mine, it's the main myspace forum. To be honest, I find their forums a tad boring - too much flaming and whatnot, seems like only a handful of people have anything intelligent to say. But the main reason I signed up there was to have some sort of webspace again, and to be able to meet/network with people who share some common interests/goals. For that, it's a great site. you shuld get a page there! It's a free signup, and you can do as much or as little with it as you like... Plus once you have an account, you can check out the rest of my page, leave me messages there, etc. one of the users also set up an IRC chat room, so anyone who wants to can chat in real-time. Quite nice! It would be great if some of the other old regulars from here would migrate over there too...

Thank you for the nice compliments, I'm often told that I look a lot younger than I am. No one ever believes me when I tell them my age, and I still get ID'ed from time to time when buying smokes or liquor.

Anyhoo, hope to see you over on myspace! If/when you get set up, add me as a friend and I'll do the same for you. See you on the other side...

I thought it was Sweden???

by nightsword (no login)

Isn't it Sweden that does "those" operations? Or have the Scots also got into doing weird things under those kilties? Big OUCH!!!!!!! Oh well, you'll always be Big D. to me.

Thanx for the info about myspace, Z., but as I've said before I'm not a very techy person and I honestly wouldn't know what to do with a website. I rarely have time to even checkout other websites--I mean doesn't it seem like everyone and their dog has a website? Lately I barely have time to even keep up with a few email friends and to check back here from time to time. I'm happy you're keeping this forum so at least if I don't see you on the other side I can still contact you on this side of the other side.

One of the things I've been up to lately was to have a big garage sale! I actually never go to garage sales (don't like to be up that early on a Saturday morning!) but I know a lot of people love them. It was a lot of work clearing closets and cupboards, organizing and pricing stuff but worth it in the end, I guess. I cleared about $500 (which I've spent already of course) but I was totally wiped out for about three days afterward. What I hadn't realized was that a lot of people steal things at garage sales. Maybe I'm too honest or too naive or something but it simply had never occurred to me that people would steal things marked at 50 cents or a dollar! I discovered several ways these thefts are accomplished:- one woman simply stuffed a cushion under her jacket while her friend bought something from me; one man brought his five kids who all made out like bandits while he occupied me with a small purchase; another woman bought a picnic cooler from me and then tried to slip two coffee mugs (from my friend's table) into the cooler; another came with things in both hands--she paid for the stuff in one hand and told me she'd paid my friend for the other stuff--my friend had just gone in the house for a washroom break and of course when she came back the woman was gone; another guy bought some small items which I put in a bag for him. The next customer told me the guy with the bag had gone back down the driveway and stuffed some things into the bag! Anyway so much for garage sales and human nature. The other side of it is that there were also a lot of nice, honest people and I was happy that certain things went to a good home.

Talk to you again soon y'all. Cheers, night

music doesnt belong to anyone!!!!

by loki_nemo (no login)

What? You cannot be serious! You cant steal someone elses music! that is such a clique thing to say!
So someone who wears different clothes to you is listening to rock/metal/EBM/industrial? Whats the problem?
Funny thing is, you are probably someone who complains about the narrow-mindedness of "normal" people towards goths, and yet here you are telling others that if someone who decides to dress conventionally instead of alternatively listens to goth-orientated music, then they're stealing it? what the hell are you?

I find that this is a big problem in goth-land. I love industrial music, and have been listening to rock/metal since before i can remember; but because i dont usually move in the goth circles, i am shunnned by them because i happen to have UV glow piercings instead of metal and they dont know me. What the fux that all about? I mean, for god sake, you see someone in your favourite club/pub that you've never seen before, and they look into vaguely what you're into, wouldnt you make an effort to respond when they walked past and smiled? Or is it BECAUSE i smile at random people? Is that breaking some goth code of conduct? I get looked at like Im a freak by the very people that complain about being branded freaks, and i dont even look any different from them? The only reason none of these so-called 'open-minded individuals' dont acknowledge my existence is because, cue league of gentlemen, "I'm not local"

I find it fukkin hilarious to tell you the truth.
So if there are any of you cooler-than-thou goths out there, (and I'm not generalising because i know plenty of lovely goths too, okay, before i get hit with that one) get a fukkin grip. You are behaving EXACTLY like the societal people you try so hard to distance yourself from and who "don't understand you"

And youre NOT bloody immortal, okay?

xxx

Welcome to Gothside, HellsDaughter! Hellsing was a fantastic anime - absolutely loved the sourndtrack and the overall dark creepiness/cool factor of it. Too bad it was only 13 episodes, hopefully we'll se a second series (or movie) at some point, there's still so much they could do with it. I also recommend Vampire Hunter D if you haven't already seen it.
