over lubrication(causing detonation) with kill a spring faster than anything else.Magnums like the Quest,are harder on springers than lower power guns,but crosman is great about supplying parts at very reasonable prices.
The short answer...if you don't leave it cocked for more than a few minutes at a time,and don't put oil down the transfer port,you'll probably get tired of the gun before you wear out the spring.
