Richard Mille Exhibition 2006

The Richard Mille press "open house" was held at a hotel in Geneva, separate from the main SIHH event. As always the Richard Mille folks were welcoming and friendly, and I got to see some wonderful pieces. Richard Mille knows that us watch-a-holics focus on the wrists of others first, and he's right. Before even looking at watches I was looking at what the other people were wearing, and sure enough it was Richard Mille all around. Sorry for the blurry photos, I was a little excited to be there!

I really really like this watch, and it's very easy for me to rationalize why I need one. I'm Brazilian. My name is Felipe. Do I need any other excuse??? The sandblasted titanium special edition 005 for Felipe Massa.

The titanium and platinum versions together.

The 010 and 005 together. The 010 is skeletonized. At first I thought "big deal, it's no so skeletonized". As usual I was wrong - when you hold up the watch to the light you see that the whole area where the numbers are is skeletonized and very transparent. It looked very nice and if I had the choice I think I would go for the 010 vs. the 005.

The 014 Perini Navi. This watch is inspired by yatch racing and looked very cool. It's a slightly different look than the traditional RMs, and the etched case is a nice touch. This watch looked a little funny to me in the press photos, but in person it had the usual RM look and feel. This particular piece was a mock-up, the final version will be even nicer!

I noticed this new ladies version on the table and was drawn to its dial. I love the curved numerals, which match very well with the textured dial and diamonds. The dial is a slate grey/blue depending on the lighting.

Next on the table was "the BEAST". It was shrinkwrapped for my protection (or I should say my wallet's protection). The RM 008, split second, tourbillon, power reserve, torque indicator, and function indicator. It's the top RM you can buy, and production is extremely limited!

Around the walls of the hotel suite, there were cryptic posters, until I found the key. Each symbol is matched to a letter. Can you decypher the code?

The new lineup of RMs is very interesting. Some models were slightly improved on, like the 010 and the ladies piece. Others were totally new, like the 014, and 012 which unfortunately I did not photograph. But even with all the new watches RM is not standing still... there were murmurs in the room of the top secret new projects coming up... and I have to admit they sound great! RM fans will not be disappointed.

Thank you very much.

RM and FP Journe join JLC and VC to form my favorite quartet.

The RM010 is stunning.

It's interesting that the RM008 is still a V1. I guess they have not made any V2's yet?

I do not like the 014 styling. The 010 is OK...certainly does not "wow" from the pictures. I do like the Ti FM RM005, much more than the PT in fact. I could see myself wearing that watch quite a bit.

Was there an RM012 there? I am dying to see pics of it.

That RM005-FM has your name on it! Personally, love the RM014 and think it looks fabulous - even more so in the flesh.

Wish I could have been there

to win the lottery now to buy that RM 008. But seeing that new Ti Massa limited edition is having me drooling, and I might have to speak with my bank account balance.

I found some more info about the 'coded' posters at the end of my post

April 14 2006, 10:19 PM

The artwork and photos on the posters were done by Guy de Peslouan, who also has done some work for other brands (AP, Kari Voutilainen). You can see some of the nice work he has done for Richard Mille and other brands at http://www.artsight.fr
