2.3 L Mustang Engine rebuild questions

by

Hello, long story short, we have an 87 mustang that just started working with a 2.3 engine (pretty old), and we have an extra engine torn into pieces in the corner of the garage. My idea was to rebuild it so when the current engine dies, we will be able to hook up the tranny and drop the whole thing pretty easily. My dad and I are your average mechanics, we do anything we can do ourselves, and have your average toolset (sockets, wrenches, etc.) but no specialty equipment. Could anyone point me to a tutorial on rebuilding engines from the ground up, or give me a step by step process. We can manage with the hooking everything onto the block (power steering, A/C, etc.) but the stuff like rings and such is pretty unfamiliar. I would also like to know all the things that we will need to have machined, and if someone has a quick estimate they can post it, but you don't have to do the legwork for me, if you don't know, I will look it up Any parts that we will HAVE to buy new as well (gaskets, and such). I just don't know the process. Any help would be appreciated!
