As I said in my previous e-mail, I have a stock 87 GT... To make a long and sort of
interesting story short the car was suffering a similar plight to ALL of those "mysterious
stalls" being discussed in the forum. I experienced the same urge to drive the pony off
a cliff, especially after the car left me stranded (was running fine one minute, shut it down,
came back 5 minutes later and it WOULD NOT start) and I had to ride my bike for 2
days while I let a local shop look at it. It shouldn't have taken nearly 2 days, except
that it took that long for the car to "act up" as it sat in the shop purring along at idle for
hours, when the shop guys weren't out burning up my gas on long drives thru the country
to get the car to DO something instead of just running fine. Finally it happened, the
shop called me and said I needed to replace the PICK-UP COIL and IGNITION
MODULE... not bad right? WRONG... cause they couldn't crack open the distributor
to replace the bad components (probably a result of 11 years corrosion)... in any event
they replaced the old distributor with a NEW one (used from the junkyard, new to
MY car ) and replaced the pick up coil and ignition module too. It cost me 400 bucks,
but the car runs like a champ. Moral of the story... for mysterious stalls, look into the
distributor. Hope SOMEBODY can benefit from my experience, cause remember...
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want
