91 mustang struts

by

I just put a caster camber kit on my 1991 Mustang 5.0 LX (because it is lowered and was eating tires) and the struts are now worn out (Not sure if they are worn out or the camber kit threw something off). If anyone knows where to find good struts for a reasonable price that would be great. I'm looking for quality struts but can't spend a tremendous amount of money on them.

struts maybe for u

by Raymond

try Steeda.com. They got Tokico struts which we installed on my 99GT and im pleased with them. I actually want the TEIN adjustable coilovers for my stang. Unfortunately, the company wrote me back and said they r still under test for the Mustang 01 for the TEIN Adjustable Coilovers.

Mustang seat covers

by Terry

Does anyone know where I can get covers for my '02 Mustang front seats that will keep me cool? I often drive with the windows down instead of using the ac, but the fabric seats get hot. I don't want to use the old wire framed seat rests, as they'll damage the fabric.
Thanks!

Worth Buying?

by

I am considering buying a 1964 1/2 Mustang 289 VC8 coupe. It's got matching numbers and has had 3 owners. The odometer readis 26000 miles but it has probably turned over. This model has air conditioning and i have been told it is a reare model. The body looks in fair condition. There is some bubling in some spots loke on the hood. On the rear left side quarter panel right next to the wheel well is the onvilible rust. Also there are a few scratches and minor paint eefects (like dripping paint before it dried). Its copper, but the origional color was green. Some of the chrome looks as if it needs to be redone but overall it is in fair shape. The interior is immaclulate for a car that is 40 years old, A few minor scratches and scrapes, but otherwise everything looks new. The trunk looks as if there has either been bondo used to patch up some places or it is a rust preventer because it looks like it was brushed on. Underneath i can see it needs a new exaust. The old one is complety rusted out. The fame and undercarrage looks as if it has been coated with a black tar ish substance. The car runs and drives well, maybe needs some adjustment to the suspension.
The seller is asking $8500 for the car and a engine and transmission off of an old 1968 302.
What do you think the car should be worth?
How much should the car cost without the spare engine and tranny?

Please get back to met.

I would buy it for that price. Be prepared to spend some money though. Fixing everything you mentioned could get expensive. A 64 1/2 in great condition goes for about $25000 or more. Be prepared to spend that much getting it into showroom condition though. Take it to a garage that you trust to give you an accurate report on what needs fixing, especially with the body.

Mustang GT 2002 Brake pedal

by

Today when I was driving my brake pedal went in only half ways and the car didn't stop. I let the pedal go and a apply the brakes again and I was able to stop. This happened twice today and this is the first time this happens.
I have 26,500 miles. Is it time for the brake service? or is there something wrong with the brakes?

Sounds like something wrong with the brakes. Don't drive it until you can get it look at.

The SLP system sounds like **** IMO. That system IS obnoxious, and if you want to annoy people then get it. But if you want it real loud, but you still want it to sound good, then get a MAC Prochamber or offroad H-pipe and the Magnaflow Magnapack or Borla Stinger cat-backs. Just as loud as the SLP but sounds better.

my mustang midlife try

by

i have not had a hot car of my own since 1985, now that i have a 17 year old son, i decided to get a little project toy. i ended up with an 1989 lx hatchback, kinda rough, but lot of potential. some goodies included are, cobra intake, alum. radiator and driveshaft, 5.0 pro shifter, large cam, long tube headers, msd ing. module, bbk traction bars?,373 gears, racing clutch and some other goodies i am not remembering.
i have a problem, in that it wont easily go into 2nd. gear, grinds badly. feels like it is going in, but when you let out the clutch, it grinds., so i decided that i would pull out the trans today, and take it somewhere to have it gone through. i didnt get very far at all. after getting it up on jack stands, and removing the shifter, i went to drop the driveshaft, got no farther. i can not get the four bolts connecting the u joints to the rear end broke loose. not sure what is up with that, hope someone out there can enlighten me, so i dont look so stupid to my son.
i have tons of questions about the car, maybe this will be a place to get some answers. thanks.

Re: my mustang midlife try

by stangman666

Sounds like your syncro is gone. Take it into a tranny shop and get an estimate on rebuiding it. If you decide to rebuild it, go to a racing shop and buy a Ford Racing heavy duty transmission rebuild kit. The components including the syncro will take a lot more **** and abuse than the stock stuff.

Suspension lowering

by Pete

I am contiplating purchasing some lowering springs for my 96 Mustang GT, but want to make sure I dont lower it to much. I hate that 3 inch gap in the wheelwell. Any recomendations?

Re: Suspension lowering

by stangman666

I have a '96 GT as well, and I, like you, hate the stock 4x4 look of the stock Mustang suspension. I bought a set of Ford Racing 5300C springs. They dropped it about 1.5" and the tires now fill the wheel wells just perfectly. The handling improvements are night and day compared to the stock suspension. You know how your car rolls in corners or your bumpr almost scrapes when you are hard on the brakes? The dive and roll has been virtually eliminated from my car since putting in the springs. They are made by Eibach for Ford Racing but are cheaper than the same spring with the Eibach name on them.

if you're willing to get 8 of your buddies to sign up, you can get a free flat screen monitor or tv. My coworker just did it and received his so I thought I'd pass it along...

MMFF

by Raymond

Go check out the Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords website. They should have instructions. I know the Steeda site has instructions on installing roll cages. While on that subject im thinking about getting a four point roll cage for my 99MustangGT. I got racing seats with 4-point harness. I dont' like how my harness is set up without a rollcage. SO, myself might end up buying one from Steeda.

Installing later exhaust system on 95 5/0 Mustang

by Bob Vilmur

Have an otherwise great, low mileage 95 5/0 that sounds wimpy in comparison with our 98 4.6 convertible. What is the possibility/downside of installing a later (throatier) 4.6 exhaust system in my 95 - - say, from the headpipe aft?? And, to get to the crux of it, what is in in the later systems that makes it sound so much "better" (throatier) than my rather quiet 5/0?

All input appreciated.

It won't fit. They are different. Go buy a Magnapack catback for your 5.0, it is the best sounding system out there by far. My GT sounds amazing with it.

Changing to a later exhaust system.

by

Thanks Stangman666. What I'm interested in is duplicating the sound - - as modest as it might be - - of my 98 4.6. I really appreciate the sound of late model Mustangs with modified exhaust systems, but still want something more subdued - - more in the area of a stock 98.

That said, what about simply fitting later mufflers and whatever else you might recommend in place of my stock 95 stuff? I note your input that a later system can't be transplanted as a package, but what about going to a junk yard, finding a low mileage 4.6 Mustang, purchasing selected 4.6 system components from it and welding them into my 95's system?

Thanks again.

Re: Changing to a later exhaust system.

by stangman666

Sounds like a lot of trouble. Just buy a set of magnaflow mufflers and weld them in. You'll get a nice low rumble and they stay quiet during idle and cruising, but open up under wide open throttle.

stalling problem

by Lx Racer

Hello everyone, i have a 89 mustang Lx with a 92 motor stroked out to a 347 4 barrel carb. I have an electric fuel pump, when i first bought this car it stalled out on me. The guy i bought it from said he needed to replace the relay switches, turns out he ran a new gas line going to the carb. Well i just started it today and it stalled out on me again, cant seem to find out why its doing this. This is the second time i started this car since i had it, ive only had the car a week. I didnt start it before this because the battery was dead, yeah i know i got a raw deal!! Any clue as to what this might be??? Thanks to all.

Re: stalling problem

by josh

How quickly did it stall?
Did it stall while driving or right after you started it, Because if thats what is happening i'm sure the motor has aftermarket headers on in and i know some times on cold starts were the car has not run for awhile it will sometimes stall I don't know why bit it does it to my 89. but if that is all it is i would not worry about it.

O2 Sensor/EGR Solenoid/??

by

My '98 6 cylindar has its Check Engine light on. Last week this happened and the car started hesitating so I had the EGR Solenoid replaced per my mechanics advise. That worked for a week. Lights back on again. Now he's saying it could be the O2 sensors or something else which he has said yet.

My question, do I need to worry if it is my O2 sensors (he wants $260 to replace) or can I can continue to drive until I find a more reasonable price?

Thanks...Debbie

That's not unreasonable for an O2 sensor in my opinion. Look for a better price though.
