Catalitic Converters

by

I want to remove my catalitic converters, but I have a 1995 3.8L mustang. My stang has O2 sensors before and after the converters. If I remove them will the car still run right or will the computer get a bad reading from the after converter O2 sensors?

Re: Catalitic Converters

Your car will not run right and your check engine light will be on all the time. You will need to buy MIL Eliminators at your local performance shop and that will solve your problem. However if you live in an area that requires emissions testing, you will fail the test...not to mention it is illegal to do this except in race cars.

H-pipes?

by

I am going to buy a 93 5.0 GT that currenly has H-pipes and is very, very loud. Too loud! Does anyone know if there is a way to "soften" the noise or should I just remove them? Are they even street legal? If I was to remove them is there any inexpensive way to make the car a little louder?
Thanks!

Re: H-pipes?

by stangman666

The H-pipe is required to keep your running properly. All it means when someone says there car has an H-pipe is that it is a little bigger than stock and could quite possibly be what's called an off-road H-pipe. Off-road H-pipes are illegal for street use, hence "off-road". What an off-road H-pipe is is cat-less. You will want to put the catalytic converters back in to be street legal and will also make it a quieter. The other thing that is probably making it very loud are the mufflers. Switch the mufflers for Magnaflows (the best on the market and reasonable sound level). They are most likely Flowmaster mufflers (very loud and no power gain).

4r70w Rebuild

by

I just had the AODE transmission rebuilt in my 96 GT. Now, the transmission shifts pretty hard from 1st to 2nd gear. The shop tells me that this is normal because the rebuild included a shift kit. They ensure me that the transmission will last longer because of this. Is this true. Is a harder shift between 1st and 2nd gear expected after a rebuld. Please advise. Thanks.

Cam shaft question

by Filip

I heard that if I get a cam shaft for my 94 mustang GT I would have a problem with the idle. Is that true with every cam shaft or just the ones with hig lifts?

Re: Cam shaft question

by stangman666

It will only affect your idle if you get an extremely aggressive camshaft. 5.0's respond really well to camshafts, so I wouldn't go with anything more then what your local race shop says is good for street/strip applications.

66 tail light malfunction

by

the tail lights in my 66 just began malfunctioning. the right brakelight stays on continuously, even when the car is off. however, when the car is off i can turn on the right turn signal which shuts the brake light off so the battery doesnt run down. the left tail light does not show any brake lights at all, but does light when the turn signal is applied and when the headlights are on. so my basic problem is that my right brake light stays lit and the left brake light doesnt lite at all. any ideas? could it be as simple as replacing bulbs?

Re: headers-heads

by stangman666

Unfortunately the only heads are FRPP heads from Ford Racing. They are extremely expensive and you will get better performance out of your stock heads by porting and stuffing them with larger ModMax valves and springs and SHM 2730 camshafts. The best headers are BBK long tube headers.
