There is a patch available, but
Before using it please read through all of the information below to make sure you have everything set up correctly for running the game in order to avoid any future problems.
Suggestions to Avoid Problems installing and playing Simon 3D
The folks at Adventure Soft make the following recommendations.
A full install has been recommended.
Set your Desk Top Colors to 16 Bit High Color and 800 x 600 Display, not 32 Bit True Color. 32 Bit Color will result in Graphics distortions. Also make sure that the setup portion of the menu (one after flags for language) is also set to 800 x 600 x 16 and that you click on OK.
An upgrade to DirectX 8.1 may help.
Be sure you have the latest drivers for your Graphics Card. However some people found that an older driver was best for those with a nvidia graphics card.
Also, never call up the menu from the Introductory Fly-By Screen using the Spacebar. Use the Escape Key Only. Many games brought up by using the Spacebar act corrupted. Before doing this Reboot the computer to clear out the RAM which may also contain corrupted information.
The following are a few more suggestions from Mr. Bill:
Some of the problems being referred to as bugs may very well be due to some wrong settings on your computer. If you were playing some other games, you may have made some changes on your computer in order to get that game to play, and it could be that you forgot to set them back again to where they were before - this could be one cause for your problem. For Example: Some of the crashing may be because of hardware or audio acceleration settings being set either too high or too low or the 3D Acceleration having been disabled.
Deactivate Active Desk Top "View As Web Page" (you don't want a check mark in front of it).
Do not have other programs running in the background such as the Internet, Virus and Internet Security Protection, etc. All of this takes memory away from the game and can interfere with the proper functioning of the game.
Never install a game with other programs running in the background.
If you have a High Speed Cable Connection and your computer automatically goes online, then unplug your cable connection before you turn on your computer. You will get an error message - ignore it. Now you can turn off your browser, the firewall (internet security) and the virus protection programs and whatever else opens and now play the game without all the other interference.
For some of the changes suggested above, you can use our Brief Trouble Shooting Guide if you are not sure how to do it. The guide may also give you other settings to check, which might help.
