ONTARIO FAMILIES MAY SEEK REFUGEE STATUS IN U.S. OVER SPANKING BELIEFS August 1, 2001

Canadian Press reports: “Dozens of religious families from southern Ontario may seek refuge status in the U.S. citing religious persecution in Canada over fears their children will be taken from them over religious beliefs about spanking, CTV Newsnet has reported.
About 30 women and 100 children who are Church of God members have fled their homes for the United States and Mexico and are considering seeking refuge status, the network reported Sunday. They left after child welfare workers took seven children from their parents in Aylmer, Ont. three weeks ago in a dispute over spanking.

The families are staying in Ohio and Indiana where state laws allow them to use corporal punishment dictated by their religious beliefs, reporter Samantha Shatzky told the Canadian television network…”

This really makes Me sick! The Canadian government bends over backwards to respect every religion except Christianity. Soon they'll be hunting us in the hills.

Canada was once a free country, if it happened here it can happen to the U.S.

Christians targets in commie Canada

August 17 2001, 9:19 PM

On the 6:00 pm. news cast Thursday night a 30 second news story was aired about 24 Christians being arrested in Afghanistan that day for preaching the Christian gospel message to muslims. Apparently all 24 are being held in a Kabul prison with no visitors allowed to see them. Six of the group are foreign citizens who face jail terms and expulsion from the country. The remaining 18 are from Afghanistan and they face the death penalty for their part. The Canadian newspapers did not carry the story and I did not see a repeat time spot about the incident on a later newscast. Christianity has no friends in Ottawa or the UN. Could something similar happen in Canada should one of the special interest groups be offended,- don't be surprised, the incident you mention is just a testing of the waters by the Ottawa puppets of the UN new world order cabal. Wait until they collect all the guns slaves.

Christian agency workers face execution in Afghanistan

August 18 2001, 6:45 PM

There were new fears that 16 Afghan and 8 foreign workers of the German based Christian relief agency shelter now international (SNI) may be executed as the country's Islamic rulers prepare to arrest more Christians including children. The Taleban regime said western diplomats would not be allowed to see any of the jailed workers now detained nearly two weeks on charges of preaching the gospel to muslims. Diplomats were told by Kabul officials to wait in nearby Pakistan until legal procedures are over.

But the United Nations Said They Could!

August 19 2001, 8:11 AM

The fact that Canadian parents have lost the right to discipline their children is not at all surpising. As one of the ratifying members of the U.N.'s Convention on the Rights of the Child, we have a responsibility to our global masters, to follow through with the implementation of their dogma at the national level.

UNICEF's The State of the World's Children 1997 report specifies, "Once a country ratifies [the Convention], it is obliged in law to undertake all appropriate measures to assist parents and other responsible parties in fulfilling their obligations under the Convention.... Fulfilling their obligations sometimes requires States to make fundamental changes in national laws, institutions, plans, policies and practices to bring them into line with the principles of the Convention."

Why should Canadians believe that they can discipline their children through spanking? United Nations laws, which clearly supercede our own, dictate that spanking is an abusive form of punishment.

UNICEF's questions and answers on the Convention:
What does the Convention on the Rights of the Child say about the ways parents discipline their children?

"The Convention makes it clear that children shall be protected from all forms of mental or physical violence or maltreatment. Thus, any forms of discipline involving such violence are unacceptable. In most countries, laws are already in place that define what sorts of punishments are considered excessive or abusive. It is up to each country to review these laws in light of the Convention."

"The Convention does not specify what discipline techniques parents should use, but it strongly supports parents in providing guidance and direction to their children. There are ways to discipline children that are non-violent, are appropriate to the child's level of development and take the best interests of the child into consideration. Such forms of discipline are effective in helping children learn about family and social expectations for their behaviour."

"States Parties shall take all appropriate...measures to protect the child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse...while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s) or any other person who has the care of the child." (article 19.1).

If the UNICEF interpretation was a little vague for you, then consider this one from UCCB’s Children’s Rights Centre - a provincial affiliate of the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children:

What does the Convention say about the ways parents discipline their children?

"The Convention makes it clear that children should be protected from all forms of mental and physical violence. Thus, spanking, shouting, threatening or humiliating the child are inappropriate. They also are ineffective in teaching a child how to behave. The Convention does not specify which discipline strategies parents can or should use, but it strongly supports parents’ providing guidance and direction to their children in non-violent ways which are appropriate to the child’s developmental level and take the child’s best interests into consideration."

Most ominously, the Convention would establish the legal framework for the seizure of children from parents who use their authority in an "undemocratic" fashion or who practice spanking or other "unacceptable" means of discipline. Article 9 of the document dictates that "a child shall not be separated from his or her parents" unless "competent legal authorities subject to judicial review determine that such separation is necessary for the best interests of the child."

According to the UN, spanking would qualify for a child's removal as it is in the "best interests of the child" to remove him or her from the humiliation and violence that spanking brings.

Unfortunately people, we have to come to the realization that the United Nations and other global frameworks are dictating our national policies. We have to realize that "globalization" is more than just a buzzword for interconnectedness; it is also a mantra for an elite bent on controlling every aspect of our lives. And, like all tyrannies, their focal point is the children.

Do not allow secretive global conferences and treaties to steal away, under the cover of deceit, your right to be a parent.

Yours in Truth,

The Sharpened Pen
