Hjelp - Help
Billett - ticket (as in tickets for the bus/tram)

Geitost - Goats cheese (the brown type)
Flykræsj - Plane crash (slang for "makrel in tomato")
Knekkebrød - Cracker bread

Kan jeg få litt knekkebrød med geitost, vær så snill? - Can I have some cracker bread with goat cheese, please?

Kan jeg få smalahove til hovedrett, er du snill? - Can I please have the Norwegian delicasse "smalahove" for a main course, please?
Bloom - can you enlighten them as to what one of our national dishes is, please?

DOWNTOWN
Øl - Beer
Ringnes - The best beer brand
En øl - One beer
To øl - Two beers

Good(?) phrase to blow off the hookers and pushers on lower main street:
Nei, tusen takk, ikke i dag. (No, thank you, not today)

FOTBALL
Klanen - the clan (The Enga supporters, the "12th player" on the team)
Enga ruler - Enga rules (Enga is the best football team in the country, in the lower half of the rankings)
Hører dere bønda nå? Nei Nei - Can you hear the farmers now? No. No. (One of the Klan Chants)

Makrell i tomat - Canned mackerel in tomato sauce (also known as flykræsj)
Smalahove - brain of sheep


DRINKS
Te - tea
Kaffe - coffee
Cola - Coke
Solo - Orange soda
Vann - Water


FOOTBALL
Apeberget - The monkey hill, also known as Klanen.

How different is Norwegian to Swedish?

I'm trying to learn a bit of Swedish and I wondered how far Swedish would get me in Norway?

Some words look similar ja/ja nej/nei jag/jeg or are they just superficially similar?

Most bartenders and training instructors in Oslo are Swedish.
Norwegians mostly understand both Swedish and Danish. Unless it's a weird dialect...
