Lydia and I, with more than a little help from our friends, will be
celebrating 25 years of Old California CMK breeding at the New Albion Stud
in Davis with an open house on Sunday, 28 August.
The weekend will also feature a Davenport Conservancy gathering on Saturday, 27 August and it's expected the audiences for the two events will overlap, much the way the pedigrees of the two sets of horses do. This kind of opportunity (for the two overlapping but differently focused groups of enthusiasts to meet and greet) has proven very constructive in the past.
Among other subjects for discussion will be plans to observe in 2006 both the centennial of Homer Davenport's desert journey and the 25th anniversary of the CMK Heritage project.
Alongside the current representatives of the New Albion Old California and GSB breeding, we will offer something a little bit different this year: the opportunity to see a representative sample of Northern California straight Davenport horses (we could easily have 15 or more on site for the Saturday, and most, at least, of those would be able to stay over for Sunday).
