shopping for Davenport distance gelding
by Carol Darling
I own 4 Donoghue bred Arabians, of Davenport/ Crabbet descent. I need a forward moving good minded gelding to do distance, light endurance with me. I do love the beautiful chestnut Davenports, so if theres one out there, I would be interested in learning more. I live in Bandera Texas. Carol
Sally, I know of several very old blood Donoghue very young horses for sale? Are you still interested? I can get you into touch with the breeder. What is the name of your 31 year odl Arabian? Carol darling
Due to an auto accident in July, resulting in surgery and ongoing physical problems, I must sell the following straight Davenport mares:
Katy O'Krush LD
Hala AlKrush LD
Unnamed CH Filly (Al Mujiz Jauhara x Hala AlKrush LD)
CF Karismah (Al Mujiz Jauhara X Katy O'Krush)
All offers considered, would make a package deal for all four mares. Please email with any questions. We are located in western Oregon, but could deliver.

Looking for Info on Master Charles/Dancing Master, anglo stallions
by
Hi
I'm hoping you Arab-experts here will be able to help me!
I'm currently researching my friend's mare's pedigree and wondered if you lot would be able to help me with the Arab part of it?
Shannon is by Master Charles who was by Dancing Master. Both of these stallions, I believe, were Anglos - 25% and 50% Arab respectively.
Does anyone know anything about them or point me in the direction of some information?
Googling their names plus stallions, arabs etc comes up with some VERY dodgy pages, lol.
Hope someone can help, I'd be very grateful if you can
Shannon is Highfieldsfarm Upper Crust and what pedigree I know is on AllBreedPedigree.com - I'm not too sure whether Master Charles' maternal side is right
The half Davenport gelding Fakher El Alamein, better known as Valentino passed away on Tuesday. He was a wonderful companion and friend to our daughter Amy Sherrill, who competed with him in endurance and competitive trail riding for years. He was her childhood friend and companion. To see him in action would explain his nickname around the barn - "Mr. Wonderful." He spent the past 2 years with his grandparents (us) in New Mexico and had a wonderful retirement. An hour after we arrived at the vet clinic, we received a call from Amy in Michigan. She just knew it was Valentino and that something was wrong. That was the kind of connection they had. Their accomplishments with UMECRA Amy a 2 year scholarship for college. Considering this horse came to us with an old bowed tendon, his accomplishments on trail were remarkable. He will be missed. We wanted to let those of you know who remembered him.
Last weekend Chris Leombruno and his beautiful stallion Bah-Rani LF competed in the Silver State endurance ride. It was a tough rocky ride and they completed the ride with all A's from the vet. They placed 8th!
so my best bet is to cross my fingers and send a picture to the farms who bred davenports in the late 70's
(if they are still in business)
did any of you breed a chestnut colt in late 70's?
76,77,78? is the year of foaling
and got a chest colt with 1 white, short sock on LF
a slice of white on RF a full blaze with it going up into left nostril. barb wire scars on chest.
14 h "wasp waist" sort of fellow.sound his whole life
aint no 16 hand, pencil leg show horse!
did you own such a horse in the 80's?
we pulled him off a killer truck in 95' 1 hour from the amfram packing plant in conn.
so we know the last 11 years. killer dealer said he was pulled out a pasture in mass. having sat for 6 years.
said he was kids gymkhana horse in late 80's.
i got no name human or horse. what do i put on his tombstone?
a few arab smart people have told me to try davenport
or kellogg lines, maybe crabbet. that was my best bet.
are tail rings a trait of davenports? can i trace my elderly arab through dna? i need to find at least his type/family tree. looking at pictures of davenports is like looking at carbon copies of my wonderfull horse.
could i ever find another? -rene-
which may or may not be useful [g]. It may well be that he'd remind someone of horses they'd known in the past, at least.
Some Davenports have more or less of the rabicano-type roan but it's probably not considered a standard thing for Davenports.
If I understand you correctly you're saying you have an old horse who's lost his registered identity; if so, no, you can't track that down just by DNA typing. But since what you want is to find another horse like him, it also sounds as though you'd do well to consider searching among the preservation-bred lines such as the Davenports and CMK Heritage.
I am looking for a mare that is between the ages of 5 and 10. That is broke to ride for a 15 year old girl that is learning to ride. Bloodline doesn't matter as long as she is straight Davenport. My mare is turning 21 this month and her top speed is a little faster then a turtle when she fills like it. (she is spoiled rotten) So I need to find a younger horse for a reasonable price. Hopefully, somewhere not to far from the southern part of Missouri.
I have a beautiful inscribed first American edition (1879) of Lady Annes' book that I must find a new home for. I am in the process of authenticating the initians as hers or Wilifreds'and would also like to know if anyone has knowledge of Mr. Wm Bond of Missouri or Kansas in the late 1800's.
The book is inscribed to him in (Srdaha, Mg, sp unsure) and other small towns in Mo. & Kansas, with comps then the uncertain initials (either W B or unknown figure A B, 1879).
The book is in very good condition and any assistance with the inscription would be appreciated. I can send a jpeg of the inscription if you e-mail me at: sbford@austin.rr.com
Does anyone know how I can research my Davenport Arabian's lines by using the internet.
He isn't really mine, so all I know about him is his name. But I understand that he is purely Davenport, his dam was a show and brood horse and his sire was soley stud.
I need to research him so that he will sell faster.
So my question is: Where can I search for my Davenport's lines? Anyone know a good and well maintained site or history?
Hi Anna,
If you have his registered name I can look him up on the datasource.
Laura
p.s. Also check out Eden davenport arabians on the web, on their website they have a Davenport pedigree area.
how old is this horse, if you can find a book called alkhamsa 2 or go to alkhamsas website and the book can be purchased there, or find someone that has it.
Javera Ebonydream is reluctantly being offered for sale. I purchased my first Davenport Arabian horses in 1978 and was a breeder until the year 2000 when Ebony was born. I no longer breed and Ebony's bloodline is being wasted standing out in her paddock. My pending divorce is forcing her sale at this time. Ebony is black with no white. She is rather small and quite refined. She had some ground training by a professional trainer when she was two and is quite easy to handle, worm, trim, etc. She hasn't had any training under saddle. Please email me at blackhorse1@earthlink.net with any questions. Thank you.
Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles, these horses are our babies, and I wish we never had to sell them, especially for reasons we cannot control. I have always wanted a Black Arabian, can you please tell me more about her, does she like people, attention, etc. How much are you asking for her, and what is your location.
Thanks,
Linda
Ebony is friendly, likes people and is quick to learn. I am asking $5,000.00 for her and would prefer that she be in a Davenport breeding program if possible. I am located in Prescott, Arizona which is about 100 miles northwest of Phoenix.
Does anyone know where I can get a picture of krushan al krush? He is the grandsire of my gelding and I am tryin to get a photo of him to put in my album. Thanks
In 2003 my herd of Arabians was stolen under the guise that they had been abandoned. They were not abandonded and the perpetrators of this crime lied to the horse community and to the court. We were in contact with them during the whole ordeal. This case has been in litigation since Jan 2003 and I am not permitted to give many details. I have just recently been permitted to speak publicly regarding this. I am trying to locate my horses. If they are in good hands, they can stay where they are and I will transfer ownership after the legal matter is resolved. I only want to know if they are safe. If you have any information regarding this case, please pass it on to me. ACDS Gandalf was one of the 16 horses involved and I know his registration has been transferred. I am hopeful that a Preservationist has him and that he is healthy. Please help if you can. I am searching for facts as well.
Thank you,
Katie Burns
Hi Katie - I sure hope you find your horses. I'll be thinking about you!!! Let's get together sometime here soon! I'll try to give you a call here in the next day or so. Hugs to you and the gang!
Elizabeth
Located in western Oregon. Sadly must sell due to medical bills and injuries I received in an auto accident which prohibit me from working with my horses at all at this time. The mares I have for sale are:
Katy O'Krush LD
Hala AlKrush LD (due to foal in September)
CF Karismah (Al Mujiz Jauhara X Katy O'Krush)
I also have a NSH mare in foal to Al Mujiz Jauhara and a 3/4 Arabian mare in foal to Al Mujiz Jauhara, both for sale, as well as non-Davenport mares.
Do you read George Morris's equitation jumping clinic in Practical Horseman every month? Do you ever wish you could get a picture of you and your horse critiqued?
Lydia and I, with more than a little help from our friends, will be
celebrating 25 years of Old California CMK breeding at the New Albion Stud
in Davis with an open house on Sunday, 28 August.
The weekend will also feature a Davenport Conservancy gathering on Saturday, 27 August and it's expected the audiences for the two events will overlap, much the way the pedigrees of the two sets of horses do. This kind of opportunity (for the two overlapping but differently focused groups of enthusiasts to meet and greet) has proven very constructive in the past.
Among other subjects for discussion will be plans to observe in 2006 both the centennial of Homer Davenport's desert journey and the 25th anniversary of the CMK Heritage project.
Alongside the current representatives of the New Albion Old California and GSB breeding, we will offer something a little bit different this year: the opportunity to see a representative sample of Northern California straight Davenport horses (we could easily have 15 or more on site for the Saturday, and most, at least, of those would be able to stay over for Sunday).

I originally posted this in 2003, am reposting again, with additional comments.
original message:
>Since being on the internet I have searched from time to time for info about my first childhood horse, a grey/white Arabian gelding who lived to be over 40. We rescued him from a riding stable in the early 1950s when he was at least in his mid twenties, and he was known to many old time horsemen and my uncle in our northern NY State county as having been owned by a local wealthy businessman and well known horseman for most of his life until being sold to the riding stable upon the owner's death. He was originally bought as a young horse by the business man at a sale of starving Arabians in Indiana in the early 1930s, as the Indiana farm had gone broke and the owner went to prison. We always called our horse "Sammy", as that was his name, according to the old timers. I am now wondering if that was a corruption of his real Arabian name. Now that I found the history of the Davenports and the misfortunes of the farm in Indiana owned by Morton S. Hawkins, I am wondering if that is the farm where our horse came from and what his real name and breeding were. I would appreciate any info anyone can give me. We do not know if he was even registered, but the coincidences of his history seem to point to that he came from Morton S. Hawkin's herd of Davenport breeding. I see that some of the Hawkins rescued stock also went to Hearst in Calif., and some of our Morgans trace to the Hearst stock.
Thank you.

Since posting the above, I hav spoken to my mother, and she says that my old Arab was buried in an abandoned well on our farm, near the barn, as it was winter, and the town road crew brought gravel to cover him. I am wondering, since we know where he is, if dna could be done on a tooth or bone to perhap identify what line he was from? I am a pedigree buff, now have Morgans, and have had a lifetime interest in finding out his identity, am familiar with dna issues. I would need some advice from other Arab breeders as far as finding other horses of related lines that could be compared to his dna. Where can I start? Any advice? I have a set of the Arabian registries, but cannot figure out which horse he might have been.

Hi, I live in Florida, between Ocala and Tampa. Are there any Davenport breeders or lovers in Florida? If so, please email me. We are in need of a horse that my daughter can ride. Thank you and best wishes, Sandy

Hi my name is christal I just adopted 2 desert bred arabian mares and all I know about them is that they belonged to a man named Yahya ansari from Brooklyn N.Y. Please if any1 knows anything about these mares please contact me I would be ever so grateful.
I dont want to slander anyone I know more than anyone that sometimes bad things happen to good people. All I want is to learn about these 2 very beautiful horses I have adopted....I dont even know what breed they are how old they are or what their names were! My personal mare has a mane that almost reaches her knees and shes one of the most beautiful horses I have ever owned and just want to learn all I can about her. I do have one message for Mr. Ansari....please tell him that his horses have a very wonderful and loving home for the rest of their lives and will never starve for attention or food ever again. I appreciate anything you can do to help me with this Mr. Wolf.

THANK YOU!
CJ Bashir (Bah-Rani LF x Calypso DL) 2004 Chestnut Kuhaylan-Haifi Strain Stallion. Very sweet guy. He leads, baths, and trailers very well. Would like to see him go to another Davenport person. His Sir is in second year of Endurance and coming along very, very well! Reasonably priced. For more information and/or photos please contact us at cjarabians@earthlink.net
Just wanted to touch base with the group after over a year away from posting messages here. We have moved to New Mexico and brought two of our Davenports with us. Artemisia CF is currently leading AERC in limited distance endurance category and also the southwest region. We're having a blast riding back out west and are so happy to be back here again.
Prelude CF is still competing in multi day endurance rides with a friend in Lake Havasu, Arizona and we recently saw her at a ride in Wickenburg, AZ. She looks great! Fakher El Alamein (Valentino) is with us here in New Mexico. He is our daughter's half Davenport retired endurance horse who's accomplishments have put her through junior college on an endurance scholarship! He loves the sun and warm weather and is happy to go trail riding a couple times a week.
NOW TO THE BIG STUFF.....I am looking for a Davenport back up horse for Artemisia. I need to get another horse going down trail. We have decided to breed her after this season, and so.....if anyone has something available they would like to share, I'll need price, availablility, location, etc. My knees are SHOT after years of abuse, so I was HOPING to find a horse that was at least green broke if not better. I know how easy these guys are to be around and ride, but another knee injury wouldn't be good. I know there are no guarantees with any horse, but you know what I mean...
Thanks for any and all responses. You can e-mail me privately at sweau@msn.com if you'd like to. Nice to chat with you all again and keep us posted on those Davenport accomplishments. Get out there and use these horses! They're awesome!
I'd like to buy a Davenport or Davenport cross for low-level eventing. As an intermediate rider, I need a horse that's trained and proven. I'm particularly interested in a horse 15 hands or over. Temperment and soundness are, of course, important. I'll travel from Washington, DC to see a likely candidate.
I have recently made a discovery about a drawing that has been in my family for a number of years. It is a 1905 drawing by Homer Davenport of arabian horses in a parade. This was one year before he brought back the "Davenport arabians" to America. The drawing has a dedication on the bottom saying, "To Mr. Ramsdell, We both love arab horses." Mr. Ramsdell, by my research, is J.A.P. Ramsdell, a well known Chicago-area breeder of arab horses mentioned in Homer's writings in 1906.
The picture is beautiful and I am curious to know if there is a major magazine or publication about Davenport arabians. I would like to share the drawing with those who love the horses as well.
Please e-mail me and let me know what publications I may want to contact. Thanks for your help in advance.
Sincerely,
David Soleil

Hello. I am looking for a straight Davenport stallion that is a Regional winner (preferably in a sport horse discipline, reining, or endurance/competitive trail) and ships semen. Any ideas? Thanks!
Personic LF is 15+ Chesnut Stallion who has made a name for himself on the race track in S. Calf and I know they do ship. Just FYI he as one full brother that was #2 or 3 Stallion in 2001 in endurance but is now gelded and we own a younger full brother that is will be 6 this year and is in his second year of endurance. This one will remain a stallion and has 3 foals this year on the ground..good luck
I was just talking to his owner earlier today and she said I could share pictures. They are not on a website though.
He is quite tall for a Davenport, with good feet and extreme tail carriage.
Unfortunatey Davenport owners rarely show their horses. They (the owners) are far more interested in just enjoying their horses on their own terms. I am quite quilty of this as well. I have several horses that would do well in many disciplines (including a certain Plantagenate great-grandson that thinks jumping a 5 foot fence flat footed is great fun,) however I prefer to either just ride at home, or on local trail rides. Your best bet is to look around and throughly check the conformation of the Davenports in your area. If you see one that makes a good match for your mare, go for it.
In the last two years after the horrible death of my Davenport mare I relocated to Bologna,Italy. Does anyone know if there are Davenports anywhere in europe? I know there are Asil arabians here, but I am looking specifically for Davenports. Any suggestions? Thanks very much. Elena
Charles Craver sold some over there many years ago (forget when) however I am unsure as to wich country, or even if any were bred together for straight Davenports or if they were bred. Charles and Jeanne Craver may have more information for you.
The colt Columbus was exported to Sweden with the fillies Delicate Air and Subeita, around 1970. There is a thin line of descent from at least one of the mares, but no straight Davenport lines from them.
Two Davenport Stallions just went to France. Both of them were really good horses too. Flamboyant was one and the other was sired by Regency I believe. Anyway, Charles Craver could probably point you in the right direction. Why don't you call or email him? Type in Craver Farms Davenport Arabians on your browser and you'll likely find his website.
Tanya : )
thanks so much for your message about Flamboyant and the Regency offspring! In fact, I did hear from Charles and ndow I just have to find oud where in France the horses are. again thanks and Happy New Year! All best, elena
Murphy, a grandson of Sir through Grand Pass, is featured in THE BEST THAT CAN HAPPEN: THE GRAND TREK SERIES, a new ebook about attempting to solo ride from coast to coast. Visit www:thebestthatcanhappen.com to read about the Trek, see some pics, or order the book. Great stocking stuffer gift for your riding buddies, Davenport or not, too! No shopping, no wrapping, and lots of fun!
If you've got a modestly priced teen-aged Arabian horse for sale, please tell me alittle bit about it. Prefer one located in the southern part of the USA. No need to send pictures right away.
I live just north of Springfield, MO. My mare's name is CA Naadirah she is out of Diomede and Star Beshara. Star Beshara sire is Haltan. I would like to find a stud that is fairly close or that ships semen pretty resonable. This would be her first pure arabian foal and I would like to stay in the Davenport bloodlines. I have crossed her with quarter horses and she has given me 4 of the best foals anyone could ask for, but she is getting up in age and I would like to have a pure blood before retireing her from breeding. She is a wonderful mare with the best temperment anyone could ask for. My daughter was riding her before she could walk. So if you know of anyone please have them contact me.
Thank you
Danena
Are you planning on breeding this year?
There are a couple of high %Davenport black stallions in Steedman and there are some Davenport stallions in Enid Ok. If you wish to email me at this address I will provide more information.
I'm close by, in Central California. I have Dubloon CF, and can ship semen. No charge for semen to straight Davenport mares, but wold need to collect fees to cover AI Tech cost.
Query: I am looking for a young Davenport mare, core Haifi. Don't want to ship, so looking for something on the West Coast so I could go and pick her up with my own rig to bring home. Mare does not need to be broke to ride, but must be easy to handle. Do you have a mare for sale, or know of any prospects. (Not interested in leasing - I get too attached and it's like losing a member of the family when it's time for them to go back to their owners!)
My mare Bint Gienah ( Davenport Plus) a daughter of Alaadri, has foaled a palomino colt, last week, I've waited to post my brag, for fear something going wrong, This colt will be reg 1/2 arab soon and will be for sale.
I am trying to locate pictures drawn by my gggrandfather, Dr. George A Feris, of Richmond, TX. Ft. Bend County of the Arabians he owned before the Civil War. The original paintings were destroyed in a fire, but he made "crayon drawings" for Randolph Huntington for his article about Keene Richards. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks. Feris
