CMK Heritage Catalogue Vol. IV

by

The deadline for submission of listings in the CMK Heritage Catalogue, Vol. IV has been moved back to Nov. 15th. All Davenport breeders should have received applications the end of July but if anyone did not or you need another e-mail me and I'll be happy to send you one. FYI the cover selected for Vol. IV is the colorized photo of the "Three Graces", Deyrak, Arak and Fasal--3 straight Davenports that were at Kelloggs.

Black Davenports are they rare

by

I do not know alot about Davenports. But just wanted to know if Black Davenports were rare. Because I know of a mare that is black and pure Davenport and is black and has produced all blacks. But they are not davenports just 50%.

cass-ole

by

cass-ole had some davenport blood. although he wasnt straight davenport. the two most promenant names in his davenport breeding are the stalion *deyr and the mare *wadduda. black is rare for any arabian, but it seems more rare for a davenport, as most of them ar egrey and chestnut. cass-ole's sire was the grey stallion al-marah cassanova. his dam was the lovely bay mare, la bahia ( not spanish in blood). through la bahia is where cass-ole gets his davenport blood. the following is a copy (the best i can do on computer) of cass-oles pedigree. (davenport in caps).
cass-ole (al-marah cassanova x la bahia)
al-marah cassanova (rapture x cassandra)
la bahia (HANRAH x ronara)
rapture (*raffles x rafla)
cassandra ( *raffles x rodetta)
HANRAH ( HANDAD x rahzawi)
ronara (roayas x narlet)
*raffles ( skowronek x *rifala)
rafla (*raffles x *indaia)
*raffles ( skowronek x *rifala)
rodetta (agwe x *roda)
HANAD ( *DEYR x SANKIRAH)
rahzawi ( *rahal x ghazawi)
roayas (roabrah x rasoulma)
narlet (ralet x narasa)
skowronek (ibrahim x jaskolka)
*rifala ( skowronek x rissla)
agwe (*mirage x *hilwe)
*roda (mansour x negma)
*DEYR (DESERTBRED X DESERTBRED)
SANKIRAH (*HAMRAH X MOLIAH)
*rahal (*nureddin II x *rijma)
ghazawi (ghazi x gharifet)
roabrah ( x roaba)
rasoulma (*raseyn x *malouma)
ralet (*raseyn x sherlet)
narasa (*nasik x *farasin)
ibrahim (heijer x lafitte)
jaskolka ( rymnik x epopeja)
skowronek (ibrahim x jaskolka)
rissla ( *berk x risala)
*mirage (desertbred x desertbred)
*hilwe (najib x hafra)
mansour (gamil manial x nafaa el saghira)
negma ( x bint yamama)
*HAMRAH (DESERBRED X *URFAH)
MOLIAH (HAMRAH X *WADDUDA)

I COULD GO ON, BUT THAT GIVES YOU A GENERAL IDEA OF HIS PEDIGREE, AND HOW LITTLE DAVENPORT BLOOD HE HAS. CASS-OLE WAS BRED BY GERALD DONOGHUE OF DONOGHUE ARABIANS IN GOLIAD, TEXAS. HE WAS BORN ON MARCH 6,1963, AND DIED JUNE 28, 1993. HE WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ARABIAN OF ALL TIME (IN MY OPINION), AND HE IS WHAT SPARKD MY LOVE FOR THE ARABIAN HORSE WHEN I SAW "THE BLACK STALLION" FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1990.

cass-ole

by

HELLO. CASS OLE WAS BY THE CRABBET/POLISH STALLION AL-MARAH CASSANOVA (A GREY). HE WAS OUT OF THE DAVENPORT/CRABBET/POLISH MARE LA BAHIA(A BAY). HERE IS HIS PEDIGREE, THE BEST THAT I CAN DO ON COMPUTER.

AL-MARAH CASSANOVA (*RAFFLES X RAFLA)
LA BAHIA (HANRAH X RONARA)

LA BAHIA TRACES TO *DEYR, *WADDUDA, HANAD, MOLIAH, *URFAH, *HAMRAH, SANKIRAH, WHICH ARE ALL DAVENPORTS.

AL-MARAH CASSANOVA IS TRIPLE *RAFFLES, WHICH IS ONE OF THE FOREMOST FOUNDATION SIRES FOR THE TRUE ARABIAN HORSE.

OTHER THAN THE BLOOD FROM LA BAHIA (DAVENPORT ON TOP, CRABBET AND POLISH ON BOTTOM), CASS-OLE IS MAINLY CRABBET. THE POLISH BLOOD THAT HE DOES HAVE ALL COMES FROM SKOWRONEK (POLISH/DESERTBRED). CONTACT ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFO ON CASS-OLE.

SALES

by

Please take a look at some of the fantastic Part Davenports available from many ages, and training.
MSF Mudanab-1997 black grey gelding IBN SERR ECHO (Serr Echo x Masada Bellesabah) x MSF Rubie ( EA Salute x LD Rubic)) MSF Rubie is a rare Davenport "Sharps" mare, having been bred to the SE, SOF stallion, Ibn Serr Echo. Going well under saddle and over cross rails, ready for junior or lady rider, very quiet and loving, 14.2hh $2500

MSF Saadoun Sinwahn -1997 black grey gelding IBN SERR ECHO ( Serr Echo x Masada Bellesabah ) X SAAFADDA CHF ( Fiddlestcks x Sugar Hill Sassy)
started also under saddle and doing cross rails well on course, very quiet, maturing to 14.3, a look alike to above gelding. Al Khamsa with JORAMIR ( Sirecho x Fad Roufa) breeding, VERY FEW trace to Joramir, and that is why we compounded the Sirecho blood through IBN SERR ECHO, a BABSON-SIRECHO SE, SOF, Blue List stallion, making both geldings Blue List Al Khamsa. Trained and ridden in the ring and on trails, and working well. $2500

MSF Rais -1997 silver dapple grey gelding SALIL IBN ILIAD ( Iliad x LD Rubic) X HART ASHEERA ( Rafeer x Nisrs Asha).. WOW! what a prospect for dressage, or endurance or racing... all Al Khamsa, sire is rare ONE of few "Sharps" stallions left. Salil is Blue List 78% Davenport with rare tail female to Sa'ud mare, *NUFOUD. Hart Asheera is a 94% SE, SOF mare, from Ansata and Pritzlaff, plus Glass, and has rare strain to *Wadduda ( Davenport). Hart Asheera also has proven herself by her outstanding record in performance in hunter ( State's) and Open, as well as 4-H mounted drill team, and PA Arabian Assoc. Competitive trail ride winner in 1996 of Jr Nov Div with a 100/100. There is more to him that that. He will mature over 15 hands, and is 14.3 now, working well in into dressage as well as over x rails for hunter with a love to do anything. ASK for price, as Megan is a senior this year in College, and must sell. GREAT ENDURANCE PROSPECT !!
MSF DAWAR- 1999 grey stallion- KAHREAM ( Moss Hill Karim x Sierra Sady) X RHIANNON CHF( EA Salute x LD Abba Isis) a double dip of the black genes through the rare black Davenport stallion, EA Salute and the Egyptian black stallion, Kahream. LD Abba Isis is a 50/50 Babson Egyptian/Davenport cross, giving DAWAR excellent structure for being a super horse for anyone looking for an addition to a breeding program. Can be gelded, but would like to see him go to a breeding home. $2500
*****1998 CHESTNUT ROAN STALLION*** and a beauty too.. AEP KAMAR -sired by our special rare blooded Sheykh Obeyd stallion, MSF Sheikh Habib( RG Fay Moniet x RG Moniette Salim) X MSF Shamis (Kahream x LD Rubic). We have added the influences of the best of the rare "Sharps" Davenport, added the black element of Kahream with old and new HIGH Abbas Pasha percent of 44.38%, and then topped with the elegance of the Rafter G, and rare *Soufian line which only Sheikh Habib carries in tail male. HE IS A SPECIAL STALLION to consider, and of extreme type with BONE, and no deviations at all. $3500
~~~~~2000 foals available~~~~~~
April FILLY--BLACK BAY ---KAHREAM ( Moss Hill Karim x Sierra Sady) X SAAFADDA CHF ( Fiddlesticks x Sugar Hill Sassy). Beauty and size are here, as this was a BIG filly. Saafadda is over 78% Davenport of the Saqlawiyah strain, and Kahream is also a Saqlawi, and black, giving the black bay, and not shed completely yet. She has been imprint trained, and has correct legs, and conformation. Kahream is such an athlete in many disciplines, and Saafaddda is so easy for anyone to ride, it is a compliment for any Al Khamsa program to acquire this bllod to go on with. $5000
MAY FILLY- Bay with 4 whites and a blaze- SALIL IBN ILIAD( Iliad x LD Rubic) x RHIANNON CHF( EA Salute x LD Abba Isis) What a charmer this filly is too ! Also of high Davenport percent and the addition of EA Salute the black Davenport stallion. She is in SC and can be ready when weaned to go to a new AK breeding home. Very correct BIG, and personable with handling done at an early age. Blue List AK filly of the Kuhaylah-Haifi strain. $3500
MAY 10- SALIL IBN ILIAD ( Iliad x LD Rubic) X MSF NOEL ( Kahream x Sugar Hill Luna)CHESTNUT may be dark chestnut with HIGH whites to the knees and a wide blaze, makes him a remarkable color, and pattern-Sugar Hill Luna was an exquisite mare bred by Jane Ott, and is one of those whose heads one will always remember as one of the best ever seen. Noel was a product of Luna and Kahream for elegance and athletic ability, bred to the High Davenport influence of Salil for an excellent sporthorse in any discipline. Noel was a CO ranch broke mare, and is now in the ring for dressage, so we wouldn't expect less from this colt.$3500
Many more on sales list for RARE AK broodmares, some bred for 2001.... please contact for more information. ALL HORSES OVER 3 under saddle...and working well, all correct and sound for USING YOUR AK HORSES !!!
My sister PeggySue has a 2/12 year old Davenport colt who is for sale, she isn't online but you can call 931-424-5660 for terms and conditions. Diboll SF is a grey colt by Ascendent and out of Filligree CF. Unfortunately our resident photographer hasn't posted any recent photos of him as of yet, but I will let you know when she does.
you can also go to:
To find other Davenport owners online with thier farm pages.
They would all be willing to help with the shipping of a horse as well as sharing good information about thier Davenports.
Haleb on the web
by Anonymous
*HALEB #25: A Mu'niqi-Sbaili by a Shueyman-Sbah, born 1901. He is described by Davenport as brown, but the stud book entry for him in Volume IV describes him both as brown and as bay with black points. At the time of the importation, he was a five-year-old. *HALEB appears to have been one of very few stallions to have left Arabia which were used extensively at stud by the Bedouins. Davenport writes of this horse that he
"was a present...to the Governor of Aleppo in recognition of his liberal camel tax, and a present from the Governor of Aleppo to Mr. Davenport...More than 200 mares are due to foal to this stallion within a year between Nejd and Aleppo. ...Owing to the fact that his mother and grandmothers for hundreds of years past have been the spectacular mares of their age, this stallion was looked upon by the Bedouins as their best horse at the present time." New Davenport Owners
by
Congratulations to Gene and Shelley Dake, proud
new owners of their first Davenport. Shelley and Gene have quite a few awards (not to mention thousands of miles under their belts) including an endurance national championship (1992) and multiple IAHA Top 10 National Competitive and endurance awards, etc.
They purchased Crucian from Dave and Sara Jones
this past week. He will be joining the Dake's other endurance horses as they head out to compete in 2000.
There is now a $500 year end award available for those persons competing in distance riding (endurance and competitive) on registered full Davenports, who have the high point endurance or the high point competitive trail horses.
part/full davenport breeder
by
Hi,
I am looking through this message board, have not been here lately. I have become friends with a Al Khamsa Arabian Horse breeder in Central PA. Purchased a 78% Davenport filly from her last fall. She is a BEAUTY and will be tall and athletic. She will be my long term companion, but Lesly Detweiler msfarab@cvn.net Mountain Springs Farm has others. She is a FAVORITE of mine (#2 choice) 1/2 Davenport/Eqyptian gelding 3yo started under saddle, grey who is a BEAUTY! Also there a lots of others of all ages. I believe she is a very competent and honest breeder and trainer. Have learned much from her and have respect. If I can be of help, please let me know. She has a website. email her and she will send it to you. Her horses all DO something, are athletic, sound with good bone, straight legs. She has an Egyptian Mare for sale who was #1 in juniors inPA a couple of year ago (her daughter riding) for endurance. She's another beauty and athletic - named Hart Asheera - actually she is dam of Rais, the 3YO, I was mentioning. ANyway, there are lots of others. GOOD LUCK, contact me if I can be of help. Contact Les, it's worth your time. Monica Flynn
Davenport Babies
by
I am new to endurance riding and currently have a mount to get me started. However, in looking at the long term plan, I have started my quest to find the ideal Arabian baby that I can raise and train to be my up-and-comer. This gives me time to really learn about endurance riding because I want to be competetive. My downfall is this, quite frankly, I don't know much about Arabians and Davenport Arabians have really peeked my interest. So if anyone can offer some knowledge, or help I would be very keen to here from you. As far as anything for sale, I live in Ontario, Canada so try to keep that in mind.
Thanks, Denice
Some of our mares are daughters of, Jamill, The Minstril, Thee Desperado, Ibn Safinaz, and more etc Let me know. Hi, I want to thank all for trying to help me in my time of great need and the comfort it has afforded me. I also want to add that one of the Davenport or manybe all the Davenport site post an list of the orginal davenports, so people can have easy access to who they are. Also Im sure Michail Bowling of Davis,California would know I rely on him when it comes to gentics and knowledge of who is who. I also suggest that all horses that are still alive with any Davenport blood be counted as you never know when a disaster can take place and you never know what you will have to build with. I also know from the genitic I have had that it takes 1000 to 2000 indivals to keep anything alive. This is taught in college on genetics. Linda at Barn@cvc.net
Desirous of Davenports
by Jana
I am new to endurance riding and find I am in need of another horse. After having done some research, it sounds as if Davenports are really something else in the endurance world. So, it would sure help me to find folks near to Montana who know more about them and possibly have rideable ones on the sales list.
by kate beaman
we have a straight davenport mare for sale. she is by sportin life and out of javera chelsea. she is coming four in the spring and is very correct and extremly exotic. shes chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail extremly friendly and gentle and has had some ground work. shes 14.1 but we expect her to grow a little more. she was halter shown as a 2 yr. old but once she is broke if i still have her i plan on competing on her in endurance. if you would like to see a video, call me at 307-548-7491 we are asking 3500$ terms available.
Mu'niqi Sbaili
by
I have 3 generations of a Muniqi Sbaili family descended from the mare Nejdmeih. She was imported from Aleppo to England then to Australia in 1925.
The Muniqi strain is only represented in Australia by the Sbaili line with no Muniqi Hedruj here to my knowledge.
I am looking for more information on the Davenport foundation horses Farha, Gomusa and Haleb (all Muniqi Sbaili)as one day I will need to find suitable horses to cross mine with as the gene pool, while strong, is small here in Australia.
Davenport Photographs
by
If anyone is interested, I have a web site now
for my horse photography. It's www.arabiansites.com and then click on the
Justus Photography ad. (Right now it's the middle
picture when the web site comes up)
When you get to the Justus Photography page, the
horse on the top photo is the Davenport stallion
Zacharia The photo was taken at Cravers over the
summer. Artema has not come back into heat as of
this date, so we're certainly hoping her breeding
to Lydian was a success. Thanks to Cravers for
allowing us to take care of this fine mare and
allowing us to breed her to Lydian. We can never
thank you enough for all you've done.
First Edition, signed copy of "My Quest..."
I own a signed, first edition of "My Quest of the Arabian Horse". I bought it several years ago and could not put it down once I started to read it! (I lent it to a friend who could not get past the first few pages...I cannot imagine why!)
Just though I'd share this information with folks who love the beauty and grace of the Arabian; as well as admire the man who followed his dream!
Looking for Soave
I'm trying to track down Soave S A (not a Bill Oates mare.) The latest info I have is that a lady by the family name of Nugent purchased her from a boarding facility as a riding horse for the back-due boarding fees, and that she lives in a town near Amarillo.
I'm following up on this info, but so far the phone number I have has not been answered. If any of you knows this woman or has anything to share about the mare, please email me? Thanks!
More CMK horses
Pam wrote:
KHYNATA(AHR#1887), ZIKI(AHR#415), SEDJUR(AHR#193).
The top photo of this site was identified as Amidore:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=125692196
He is 100% Crabbet, 100% Kellogg and thus CMK. He was bred by Kelloggs and was by *Ferdin 613 (*Nureddin II x *Ferda), and out of *Rossana 598 (Skowronek x Rose of Hind)
KHYNATA(AHR#1887 is also 100% Crabbet, 100% Kellogg and thus CMK. She was bred by Kelloggs and is by Sikin 964 ((Nasik x *Farasin 615 ) and out of *Incoronata 1200 (Skowronek x Nisreen)
Postcards of Nasik at Kelloggs are often offered for sale at eBay.
*Incoronata is recorded in the AHRA studbook as being imported by K M Brown. She imported the horse at the request of Kelloggs, and Kelloggs was the the 'real' importer.
ZIKI(AHR#415) is 100% Davenport and thus CMK. He was bred by Hingham Stock Farm. He was sired by the Davenport import *Hamrah, and out of Samit 153 ("Kusof 35 x *Haffia 45) *Haffia was also the dam of the Harara, sire of Antez.
SEDJUR(AHR#193) was bred by the Hingham Stock Farm. She is CMK. She was sired by *Hamrah and out of Aared 91. Aared was sired by the Hamidie Society stallion, *Obeyran 2, and out of the Davenport mare, *Wadduda.
Sedjur is the granddam of Bint Sahara. Bint Sahara was dam of Fadjur and granddam of Ferzon.
These are CMK horses
by Mary C.
These are CMK horses. They all trace to the Blunt's Crabbet Stud as well as to some of the Davenport importation. In addition, Ourida goes back to the Huntington horses, Selmara is tail-female to an early Spanish mare. She also traces to the Hamidie mare, *Nedjme.
RUFFOURID(AHR#5028), (*Raffles 3254 x Ourida 946 1/8 Davenport (CMK)
Ourida 946 (Ribal 397 x Haaranmin 451) 1/4
Haaranmain 451 (*Houran 26 x Nimnaarah 129) 1/2
SELMARA(AHR#5598),(Selmage 2189 x Reeseara 3191) 37/128 Davenport (CMK)
Selmage 2189 (Image 1008 x *Selmanab 812)
Reeseara 3191 (Caravan 1558 x Mefara 2167) 37/64
Artemisia CF
by
Join me in celebrating Artemisia's second
endurance ride completion this past Sunday.
She has 50 miles under her belt now, and is
loving the sport. Maybe part of Demitasse lives
in her??? She crossed her first river and loved
it! It was all I could do to get her out of the
water!
She placed third on her first ride and fourth on
this ride. (She would have been 2nd, but a mule
brayed right when I called for a pulse check and
her pulse spiked!!!) 10 minute penalty!
Who What When Where How
by
This can basically be put into he classic reporters text of how "Davenports" and "Egyptians" and "Blue List" came to be. I listed the three principle groups in age order.
Who?
The Wentworths
Homer Davenport
The Otts
What?
Wentworths:
The decision was decided to breed Arabians horses in England for the purpose of improving local stock. The Wentworths imported MANY horses over MANY years and developed a wonderful program for thier stud.
The Wentworths eventually started a stud in Egypt as well, that Lady Wentworth is credited as managing for years. Though some, NOT ALL, of thier horses were from the Egyptian area hence "Egyptians"
Homer Davenport:
Grew up enchanted with horses and Arabians. After losing his first newspaper job because he spent too much time with the Arabians at the Chicago World's Fair, eventually made his dream adventure come true in 1906. He went to the desert and imported 27 horses of "pure blood" Horses tracing sole to those of that importation are now known as Davenport.
The Otts:
Wrote the "Blue Book" wich held a listing of all the Arabians that they believed to be "pure." Thier "Blue Book" was the first of it's kind. Thier work led to the forming of Al Khamsa in America, and the Asil Club in Europe.
Where? (as in from)
Wentworths:
England (Crabbet Stud)
Egypt (SO)
Homer Davenport:
Silverton, Oregan
The Otts:
I'm not really sure, but someone can
tell you. I am thinking that is was
the United States, but don't quote
me!!
When:
Wentworths: 1800's-1900's
Homer Davenport: 1906
The Otts: 1940's-1970's (I think?)
