Update: Sunset Farm (Bill & Billie Oates)
by News
The mares have all found new homes, and only three of the stallions are left. They include
Minstrel(An Ibn Alamein son), Bon Vivant(a Lysander son) and SA Starantez(a Kamil Ibn Salan
grandson).
SA Starantez is now the sole remaining horse left at Mr Oates Farm. Starantez is a son of Kamil Antez, one of the last sons of the stallion Kamil Ibn Salan.
I would LOVE to have this horse, unfortunately I don't have a place to properly care for a stallion right now.
Starantez is very well mannered, and sweet though he has much spirit. He would make a great horse for a person looking to start thier own Saglawi Davenport breeding program.
Hi! Just wanted to let everyone know that we had a new colt today. He is a CMK but of high % Davenport, His sire is DDA Tyreb CF, Mom is Gems Cameo SH by Sir Gem LD.
He is a very nice colt,I think he will be tall and what a looker he is, 4 whit socks and a wide star, thin strip to nose and a snip.
I'm pleased to inform you all of Brigade CF's second purebred foal--full sibling to last year's colt.
She's out of a general list mare, who, like Brigade, is tail female *Urfah. Foal should be CMK eligible.
This one's a filly--bay, four white socks and a wide blaze, but looks to be going to grey.
Demitasse CF (the most wonderful Davenport gray
mare I own) (the only one) placed second again
last weekend at the White River Summer Ride in
Michigan (25 mile competitive)
We are now preparing for the Region 13 Competitive
championships in July. (2 day 70 mile ride).
If you aren't trail riding your Davenports, you
haven't seen how wonderful they really are!
Hi. My name is Monica Breland and I recently became a fan of straight Davenport Arabians when I began training a stallion that was rescued from a neglectful owner by Animal Control in the state of Maryland. I was amazed at the intelligence and willingness of this little guy and decided that as soon as he was adoptable, I would put in the application. He wasn't afraid of anything! He would stop, look, investigate, rather than run away. Since he has come home, we go trail riding all the time. He still has a little catching up to do, physically, but has gained bone and muscle very rapidly. (We live at the foot of a mountain, so there are a lot of hills) I'm looking forward to many years of competitive trail riding and possibly some endurance.
Sincerely,
Monica Breland

Hi! Everyone I was just doins some work on the Hadban strain as I'm goint to add them to our web page and we have 25 Davenports of the Hadban strain . Out of those 25, 11 are stallions and 14 are mares, out of that only 5 or 6 mares are being bread and 3 or maybe 5 stallions are being used. That's sad.
Just to put this in a context, I surveyed 500 horses out of AHR volume 72 (the last printed stud book) and found the *Hadba family represents nearly 1% of the breed (actually ranks ahead of *Reshan in the breed at large).
We are very much attached to the *Hadba line through Rollicka in our CMK program and actually have a yearling bay filly double bred in this line whom we consider to be quite a hopeful prospect. She is a Stud Book V (last imported ancestor 1932) combined source CMK.
There are still horses tracing to Rollicka (*Hadba line) in tail female being bred to AL Khamsa, Egyptian and Davenport stallions. Raquelas Belle ( El-Ibn Fasaab x Scimitar Raquela) had a grey '98 filly by the Egyptian Al Khamsa black stallion Kahream ( Moss Hill Karim X Sierra Sady) ,and is bred to the "Sharps", Blue List, Al Khamsa, blood bay stallion Salil Ibn Iliad ( Iliad x LD Rubic) for '99. Her daughter, Alia Gamil Razele, produced a gorgeous grey '98 filly by MSF Sheikh Habib ( RG Fay Moniet x RG Moniette Salim), a Sheykh Obeyd, Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa chestnut roan stallion.
Raquelas Belle is owned by Pam & Joey Barnette in Myrtle Beach, SC, and she will be 21 next year.
Hi! Those of you who may have been to the last 2 AK convention held in IL (1991 and 1996) would have had a chance to see our Bedouin Quadrille. What you missed, though, was all of the practices and rehearsals we went through to get the horses used to working with each other so closely, and the HUMANS to learn how to ride the horses! OK, so the humans had some sort of idea of how to stay on, but counting those circles and remembering when to turn and what direction got a little tricky! The most important thing is that we all enjoy each other's company, and we have a great time doing this! The majority of the horses in our quadrille are Davenport. Until recently, the majority were also greys!
The next official Bedouin Quadrille appearance will be at the Sir celebration, StartWest, August 1, 1998. Come see us there if you have a chance!
We'd like to brag a little about the wonderful versatility of the Davenport Arabian. We were at
the White River Spring Ride in Michigan, and
Demitasse CF (Javera Thadrian x Dixie Cup) and
Fakher El Alamein (Fakher El Din x Bint Alamein)
swept the awards on Saturday and again on Sunday
(50 miles total).
Demitasse CF won high point arabian on Sunday
and Fakher El Alamein (Valentino as we call him)
won the Junior division and was 6th overall out
of 19 horses. Demitasse was 4th overall both
days out of 19 horses and 16 horses respectively.
We are so proud of these guys, and let me tell you
they LOVE going down trail almost as much as they
love their owners! This was Demitasse's 2nd and 3rd ride ever, and her first this year. Hoping to
have many more trail miles with her before we're
done! She's a blast to ride and so loving! (As are all the Davenports) Until next time.....
Just want to announce that SA Apogee (Ascendent x Copper Hill Rysa) is in Red Bluff CA this weekend showing in reining classes. He won his forst class with trainer, Jim Spence. In the next class - for amateur0 owners to ride, he did fine but did not place.(well he was 6thout of 10 so thats not bad) My co-owner, Lisa Spackman, rode him & this was her very first reining class.
This is only Apogee's 2nd show as a reining horse and he is now qualified for both Region 3 and Region 4 Championships.
Today Lisa showed him in the 'Working Western Horse Conformation' class. And he won that one too!
We are real proud of him! Lisa has 2 more classes to go and Jim Spense has one more.
Well, Apogee's Eastern cousins are duly impressed!
I am actually considering sending 'Rocious (Queen of Argyll) to a reining trainer--she likes to do sliding stops on her own--even took out a fencepost recently when she miscalculated the slickness of the sea of mud we have here...
I have a question. The other day I went out to look at an Arabian as an endurance prospect and when I saw her she had very deep, bleeding cuts in both corners of her mouth. When I asked the seller why she had these, he said very nonchalantly that it was because of the bit he uses (twisted wire snaffle). He said he was training her to be a reining horse and that this was common practice. I've had reining horses before, and didn't think this was the way it was done. I don't ride western anymore, but have seen quite a bit of abuse on the part of "reining trainers" with regards to spur marks on the shoulders and flanks. Please set me straighten me on this subject before I lose respect for the discipline altogether.
Monica
Wow Monica! I would be upset to see that too. There are poor trainers in every aspect of horse training. Just dont judge all by one bummer. And actually even a twisted wire snaffle COULD be an easy bit IF the rider has a light hand. It is the hand/s of the rider that determines if a bit is severe or not.
Reining horses must go on a very light - or loose rein. Ideally they stop and turn with shifts in the rider's body weight for cues. Many are started out in hackamores for the precise reason that they want a light mouth.
Too bad you saw the results of some poor rider - that I wont honor with the term 'trainer'.
Okay, I just can't resist using this opportunity to brag about my wonderful Davenport foals. Two here so far, one to go in a few weeks.
The first is a bay colt by Quantum LD and out of Topaz LD. He's a really athletic colt with a "look at me" attitude. He'd love to find a new loving home with someone to appreciate him.
The second is a grey filly by Quantum LD out of Sarra Al Krushah. She's a beautiful replacement filly for her mother - that I've been waiting for a long time to get!
The last one due is by Quantum LD out of Takhwir CF. She hasn't had a foal in many years, so this one is anxiously awaited.
Hope everyone is having as great a spring as I am.
