Geez Kyle, I thought of you this morning when I read Houston would be affected. Will you need to evacuate? Hope you're ab;e to do whatever you need to! Will keep you and the family in prayer with a candle for sure. Hope Ike farts out and passes fast like gas.

WELL Pad....the bigger question is HOW you would KNOW that?? heh heh heh
LOVE YA PAD!!
off to work...blech.

Hey Maz, I must know something about it as my colleagues are always telling me I suck!!
As for blowing, i'm not gonna go there......yet!!! ;-)
I really think you should be taking a sickie today instead of working, don't you deserve a day off??, after all the hard work you've aleady done this week!!! And anyway it is FAF!!
You're right. Hurricanes do blow, but this sux. I am off of school today, and we are expected to have it come right over our county - Brazos County. Look it up, and it'll tell you what we have in store. We are expecting 40-60 mph winds, and gusts of 70-75. That's is hurricane force winds, and we are 2 hours from the coast....that's crazy. This is gonna be bad. We have lots of stuff secured, but seeing Galveston on TV right now... (We vacation there every year.)....and it's bad there now, and those are just the waves coming over the 17 foot seawall...the storm surge is not even expected until late tonight. Hope Galveston is still there when it's over. Keep thinking of us.....
I'm right there with ya on that Kyle! I'm about 20 miles from Galveston, just to the west in Brazoria county. Its gonna be bad down here. I'm as ready as one can be.....just waiting.
Didn't have the devastation like folks east of us. My brother and sister both live just west of Houston, and electricity is out for now. Should be turned back on soon I hope. We are fine here in central Texas. Lots of wind and rain, but still bad. Galveston is a mess. We are saddened that the seawall shops, and all are gone. The Balinese (made popular by ZZ Top song) was a place we went to, and one of the better giftshops (and margarita places) called Murdocks are both gone. Both were on piers over the gulf, and washed up and destroyed. We just hope it can bounce back and we can all go back and get some great food, and have a great vacation. Winger played their 2nd to last show on the last tour at Webster, TX which is basically 30 minutes from Galveston. My wife and I went to Galveston just before the show, and had a great lunch, and walked along the beach right near one of the piers that is now gone. It's sad. Hope is all comes back soon.
We are all well....just still somewhat in shock. I feel for all who lost in Galveston and Houston, and along the coast. Hey Angela...check in soon.
SO glad you're able to check in Kyle! For some reason, I thought you were IN Houston! Good thing you weren't, but still sorry to hear your family didn't fare quite as well. Hope Angela is okay out there too. If either of you guys need anything...I mean, whatever I can do, ya know..give me a hollar.

Thank you so much for the offer. We are all good here in central Texas. There are some around us that still are without power....mostly the smaller towns around us. Slowly getting back to business. Galveston.com has a good slideshow of the before and after. There are some shots of the places we would visit. Murdocks, and the Sea walk look bad, but it will come back. Texans are good like that. FEMA, and other entities are slow going, and the Houston mayor and others in his circle are starting to get short fuses, and taking things on themselves....which is good. If you want something done right, do it yourself right? Sounds like that is what Houston is starting to do, and not wait for FEMA, and "the government". They don't want it to be another "New Orleans". People along the coast are strong, and tears are flowing, but strong backs, and gumption will prevail. Galveston, Bolivar Point, High Island, Houston, and all the other affected areas will bounce back. Texans are strong. Texans are tough. Ain't no master of the Junkyard Dog(s). (I just had to write that.)
Angela ...please check in and let us know how you are doing.
Kyle I am glad to hear you are good! Hopefully Angela is safe and just without power right now. Its awesome to hear americans doing what they can instead of Kanye West spouting ignorant racial remarks. The only colors american pride knows are Red White and Blue! Take care...Guv
Kyle, do you know of any local organizations who are accepting donations? I'm fine with donating to the Red Cross but someimes they're so stretched that you never know where your donation is actually going or when it will get to where you hope it will end up!
Do you know how close Angela was? Hope she's okay too.

Almost forgot! Hey Paddy, this has nothing to do with hurricanes, but I anyway, I think you're somewhere on this thread. Have you ever watched a show called Little Britain? It's gay skit comedy, ****ing hilarious. It's been running in the UK for a good while, if you have the chance to watch, you'll get the perfect example of my humor. Anyway, one of my friends is working on the show for the American audience. I guess it's going to start showing on HBO here sometime soon. Hope they don't tame the humor, that'll be such a shame.

I think Angela may have been fairly close, but I did see her post after the storm. It's bad at some areas, and there is even talk of the island north of Galveston called Bolivar and further north of it being condemned. The body count is around 38 or 40, and they haven't searched all of it. They are supposed to go in and look some more. Galveston.com has slide shows, and it's even worse than first expected. There are entire communities gone. It's just so strange, but mother nature just proved....she is in control.
Thanks for the well wishes, and from eveyone else too. We are fine. No problems for us..but folks around are still without power.
If you want to make a donation to the Galveston Red Cross...you can try to contact someone on their website....maybe their chamber of commerce.
Thanks for thinking of Galveston and Houston.
Take care all....and once again....Angela....let us know what's up.
I'm back! I lost power Saturday at about 2am and just got it back this afternoon. Its nice to have a/c again. I live about 20 miles from the coast. I rode it out at home. I did lose part of my roof over my kitchen, but insurance is a good thing. Our area got hit pretty hard, but not as bad as Galveston/Bolivar area. I am going too miss Murdocks and the Balinese Room for sure......this sucked for sure!! Thanks for thinking of me yall....now back to cleanup work.
Hey Maz,
You're talking to the converted here! Little Britain is one of the best comedy shows ever made - second only to the UK version of The Office.
I heard the creators Lucas and Walliams were doing a US version - but don't know if they are actually in it or just writing it. Some of the characters are superb but can't see them using them in the US version - especially ones like Daffyth - "The only Gay in the Village"!! Some of the language is choice too!
Having appreciated your humour from afar for the last few years (you're one of a few Americans who appreciate irony in comedy) - I think your friend should be tapping you for ideas for the US show!! Could you be the US version of Vicki Pollard???
Did you ever see the sketch (skit) with her in the swimming pool???? freakin hilarious!
I hope you guys get the help you need from those that are supposed to be helping y'all.
I'll be gong to the American Red Cross site after my next check comes in to donate. I hope it helps.
Oh dammit Paddy. I just replied to your Little Brit on another thread lol.
Glad all the Texans are accounted for and OKAY! I can go back to being a callous, empty hearted, holier than thou, drunken bitch now. =oD
I'll do some searching online to see if I can find a local organization to donate to. One of the women at work has family in Beaumont who were directly hit and they suffered a LOT of damage and loss. Hopefully this will be the end of the season huh? How long IS hurricane season anyway?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow.
JUNE THRU NOVEMBER!?!?! HALF the year is hurricane season!?!?! Wooo...well, at least you're almost there. Have any hurricanes every hit OFF season? I don't know if I could live in a place where I'd be freaked out 6 months out of the year!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow.

Hahahaha.....yeah, half the year. But, its not like you sit and worry about it all summer long. Its been 25 years since we (Galveston area) have had a major hurricane. The pluses outweight the minuses to living near the coast in my opinion. Besides...its home! Hey, at least we don't have snow to deal with several months of the years!
Yeah, you're right. I guess we just tend to prefer what we're used to lol. I mean, we actually can get snow any time from late Sept/Oct til May/JUNE (no ****). But it isn't like I sit around for 10 months worrying if I'm going to have to wake up at 3am and dig my truck out. But I dunno, Angela. I think I'd rather dig my truck out of snow that float down the street in my tub. Uh...remind me about that digging part this winter when I'm bitchin.

Ok, I'll remind you....I'll also be riding my horse on the beach in a t-shirt in Nov/Dec!!
Maz and Sandi, thanks for asking about donating. I've checked around and the best seems to be the Red Cross or Salvation Army. Both of those groups have been intrumental in helping out down here!
