| What would be the pros/cons of doing a high stim IVF rather than a high stim IUI (I didnt know this existed). Would like to hear your thoughts..is there a significant success rate difference in one or the other since the still high stim? (considering age, high FSH, DOR,). Thanks agxx

High stim IUI is risky I think. Because if you produce a bunch of follicles on the high stims, and do an IUI, the risk of multiples is high. With IVF of course, you would put in a number of embryos that you were comfortable with. Personally I would not do a high stim IUI. |

If you're talking about high stim for someone over 40, I don't think the risk of multiples (at least higher order multiples) is great with either IUI or IVF. There's just too many "bad" eggs in there! That said, I think IVF definitely increases your chance for success compared to the same protocol IUI, because they have more control over things, and can help the eggs fertilize. If money were no issue, I think IVF definitely makes more sense. |

thx..regarding the more control of things to fertilize...Since im over 40, high FSH, I should be so lucky with multiples:). I was thinking that the IUI would be less invasive--but on the otherhand if Im high stimming i see your point of ivf having more control of things...ax

I do high stims cycles. The last one got me pregnant with one expected egg (got two), but we lost it. I am doing it again this cycle, and we are hoping for 3 eggs this time.
I can't imagine all this trouble and $ for an iui...the drugs alone are worth $6,000 (mostly donated).
I ovulate, so for some reason, perhaps our morphology problem or hostile cm, we do not get pregnant on our own. So ivf is the only solution for me, though we continue to try naturally.
If I were doing iuis, I would just do low stims and net nearly the same number potential eggs (since i do not make a lot of follies in any case)...and save my $. |

I've found w/Cooper that I still produce a fair # of follies even on low stim (75 Gonal F/day plus letrozole). High stims are expensive. That said, you'll know if you do IVF if your follies fertilize, although it's A LOT more involved. How about 1 low stim IUI, then on to IVF? I'd still research and decide for yourself if you want to do high stim given you're 40+ and high FSH, particularly for IVF.

Ive thought about it and just dont know which to try first (high ivf or low stim IUI). I also have the big M on my mind (AF down to 1 day, night sweats, ect). Im debating with myself to pull out the big guns now (high stim/ivf) and rationalize that I will know if Im a good responder or not, and if not then I can taper down to try the IUI low stims and continue along that path. I just dont know what the right thing to do is,and I know were all different and respond differently--I guess there is no right choice..... Axxx
