buy some fast film 400 or 800 speed. Turn the flash off or tape something over it if you can`t do that. If you want to tape tissue over the flash which will soften the flash, less scary may be? and less flash shadows. If you do disable the flash either by tape or camera make room nice and bright and use fast film.
