The PC card will "stick out" of your laptop less than a USB device so would be less likely to get damaged if you have the laptop anywhere other than on a desk or table (like sitting up in bed with it).
The USB option may come with a cable so you can tuck it away behind the laptop on your desk.
And if you get a desktop PC the PC card option won't be any good, but the USB can be transferred.
