I'm hesitant to recommend a specific watchmaker unless I have personal experience with them.
Last year we had a customer in Chicago who needed a simple hand re-alignment. He preferred not to send his watch to the service center, but to have it done locally. He didn't know any watchmakers though. I depended on the recommendation of someone on a www board. This watchmaker scratched the watch up so badly ( including the bezel ) that we had to replace it.
You MIGHT try asking John Davis who posts as eight8ohms on thepurists.com. He is an apprentice watchmaker, and lived for several years in San Francisco. I would personally have a great deal of confidence in anyone he recommends - but we learned a lesson from the Chicago fiasco, and would not be able to guarantee or warranty the work done by anyone other than our service center or authorized repair facility.
