Four young tykes with a female drummer (Caroline Banks) who were once very definitely flavour of the
month. WAIT – KEEP READING! Resolutely raised on American music, they toured the world with Grandaddy,
Dawn of the Replicants, Idlewild and The Llama Farmers; slowly and stealthily developing as a rock act
with a sensitive side, an intelligent edge and utterly cracking tunes. No wonder early reviews were
littered with drooling references to Pavement, Sebadoh and Sonic Youth. But they're also quite used to
confusing people being a guitar act with more than one idea - cello, flute, slide guitar and bastard
frazzled guitars anyone? Snapped up after just three gigs by Fierce Panda they've "watched the hip and
smelt the hype". A new single, the live favourite Western Battle is out in March so maybe these "casual
pilots exploring twilight noise seduction" will finally get the long-lasting recognition they deserve.

13 May - This Girl + Tiny Elvis + Stent
When this aggressively emo-influenced South Yorkshire foursome hits the stage you'll think a bomb has
gone off. In fact, hurling themselves around with no regard to life or limb it's a wonder by the end
that their gear is intact or even that they're all conscious. With a lurking vocal power of Mike
Patton, think Faith No More and Incubus with the ultra-warped hardcore and experimental noise of
sonic-bending crazies like The Boredoms and Truman's Water. Signed to Lockjaw and a quite frightening
blend of sheer energy, enthusiasm and charisma, how could anyone forget them on the recent Tribute To
Nothing tour? More info and tickets: http://www.fibbers.co.uk/scripts/gig.cfm?gig_id=5947
14 May - The James Taylor Quartet
Ten years before anyone imagined what Propellerheads or Jamiroquai might sound like, JTQ were producing
sleazy cop-show tunes with a smart mixture of Doorsy B3 Hammond organ, some big old trumpets and a
sizeable smirk. You don't even need to close your eyes to imagine the smell of burning rubber on
tarmac, the wail of sirens and the screech of getaway cars taking corners on two wheels. These
jazz-friendly Mod-squad groovers whose music coined the term "acid jazz", collaborated with Tom Jones
on "Looking Out My Window" as well as appearing on the Austin Powers soundtracks. James Taylor's
soul-jazz and stinging instrumental brassy funk style started with mod-revival band The Prisoners and
continues to this day. Originals! More info and tickets:

16 May - The Alarm + Spear of Destiny + The Mighty Wah!
>From the early eighties hit '68 Guns', Mike Peters led The Alarm worldwide with Top 50 singles, six
successful albums, packed out venues, critical acclaim and, most importantly, a loyal following. World
tours; duets with Dylan and Neil Young; live MTV gig broadcasts; a brush with cancer and USA No 1 hits
have not dulled this enigmatic and passionate performer, still true to his Welsh roots. Arising from
the grave of bleak post-punkers Theatre of Hate, SPEAR OF DESTINY was formed in 1983 by Hate
singer/guitarist Kirk Brandon and bassist Stan Stammers, also including drummer Chris Bell and
saxophonist Lasettes Ames. Their brand of goth-rock encompassed self-consciously romantic, poetic
lyrics set to dark, slow dirges, with occasional saxophone work and Scottish melodic touches. Joined by
drummer Dolphin Taylor (Tom Robinson/Stiff Little Fingers) they recorded One Eyed Jacks, generally
regarded as their best work. Adam Ant guitarist Marco Pirroni joined for 1987's Outland, which marked a
return to form and the band moved to Virgin for 1988's The Price You Pay. The MightyWah! is the
inspiration of Liverpudlian Pete Wylie - singer/songwriter, raconteur, maverick, pop star and scouser.
(+1) Ever the optimistic enthusiast and musical experimenter, this is the man who was given a guitar by
Mick Jones of The Clash and told that he could pay him back "when he was famous". He always seemed
destined for greatness although actual stardom didn't arrive until, as The Mighty Wah!, the release of
"The Story of the Blues" reached No 3 Xmas Day 1982. More info and tickets:

17 May - Achtung Baby - Tribute to U2
One of the very best tributes to the Irish supergroup U2, currently reclaiming the title 'Best Rock 'n'
Roll Band In The World'. Formed 93' and veterans of European/Middle East tours, the band have also
recorded 'I Still Haven't Found (What I'm Looking For) with the band's permission and singer Andy
Bagnall was a finalist in 'Stars In Their Eyes" as, of course, Bono. They also won Best Soundalike in
last year's 'Battle of the Fantasy Bands' on BBC hosted by Terry Wogan. Twenty five years on, U2's
'rock band with a conscience' music is as fresh and relevant as ever from winning a 1978 talent contest
in Limerick as The Hype, first real hit New Year's Day, the 13 minute Live Aid performance of Bad and
eventual assured perma-greatness with "The Joshua Tree". The '90s saw the band re-inventing again with
the industrial guitars and electronic dance beats of 'Achtung Baby', a mind-boggling sensory-overload
"Zoo TV" tour and the more fun and funk orientated PopMart extravaganza of 1997. The rest is history so
come and enjoy this superbly professional sound-alike AND look-alike tribute to The World's Biggest
Band. It's a Beautiful Day, alright. More info and tickets:
