At last. Band line-ups now available for the Fibbs 10th Birthday Weekender
Saturday/Sunday August 10/11th. All proceeds are going to The Marie Curie Foundation this
year so come along and support us and local live music. One day we'll be bored of all
this and retire to Bridlington or somewhere similarly exotic so make the most of us -
there'll never be anything like this again
On with the fun, ho ho.
JULY
25 Jul - York Rox!
Take about twenty young unintroduced (to each other) musicians of varying age, ability and
bottle. Chuck them in a room and divide in to groups of 4 or more. Stir in musical
instruments and add a dash of survive-or-die. Shake vigorously and display on Fibbers
stage after just four days for all to see and listen. You'd be amazed how damn good the
results are ... More info: http://www.fibbers.co.uk/scripts/gig.cfm?gig_id=6070
26 Jul - Jesse James + Half The Distance + Fadge
Six-piece 'punk soul brothers' Jesse James pull together the best bits of Dexy's Midnight
Runners, The Clash and Green Day and turn 'em in to a stomping, horn-driven groove
juggernaut. Formed barely a year ago and already touring with the likes of King Prawn,
Reel Big Fish and Capdown, Jesse James have a formidable live reputation having plundered
and refashioned in their own image. A dirty, loud, brassballed horn explosion announces
this new Hole-in-the-Wall-gang and - yep - they've hijacked the soul train. More info:

27 Jul - The Bobak Cut + Ruby Tyler + Sham Stanley + DJ Charlie (ex-Subway)

28 Jul - All Ages Show 14+ with Vacant Stare + Osiris + Wa$ter + One Away + Dumstruck
"The most brutal and intense rock act to come out of Britain for some time
mixing
quickfire rap with spazzed-out raging screams, guitars and beats of blistering ferocity
AND adding a DJ to their ranks Vacant Stare are certainly a band with serious songwriting
ability" - Kerrang! This is one excellent live band with cutting edge material. Touring
with the likes of Earthtone9 / Hundred Reasons / Kill2This / Miocene / Raging Speedhorn
and with pure energy flowing out of their guitars and decks they've got the licks, they've
got the moves, they've got the songs. More info:

30 Jul - Manydown + Broke Up + The Plums
Probably one of the least pretentious bands in York, featuring Tim "The King" Walker
(drums), Paul "The Pope" Almond (guitar) and Graham "I Kill Fish" Evans (bass/vox). "Us
three got together and started to make music that we liked. So what if it's sh*t **** u.
We take pride in being completely manufactured." More info:

8 Aug - The Groundhogs + Syncrownized
If you are a fan of blues or heavy rock, but have yet to taste the British genre, there
are few better starting points than the music of Lincolnshire-born Tony (TS) McPhee and
The Groundhogs. One the greatest blues-rock guitarists since the mid-sixties, and heavily
influenced by John Lee Hooker and Howling Wolf, Tony turned down offers from the likes of
Alexis Korner and Fleetwood Mac preferring to pursue his own sound, most notably in those
early days with the classic Blues Obituary album. But it was in the seventies with a
heavier rock sound and albums such as Thank Christ For The Bomb, Split and Who Will Save
The World that their sound found massive worldwide acclaim and sales that continue to this
day. Chart success followed (and even a TOTP "Album Slot" with Cherry Red) as well as a
tour with The Rolling Stones. The 'Hogs still blow many a so-called rock band in to the
weeds but with the added bonus of a master bluesman at work. Fans of The Hamsters, Nine
Below Zero give this a whirl. You wont be disappointed! More info:

17 Aug - An Evening With Wayne Hussey (The Mission)
The Mission are worthy leaders of the dark English gothic rock movement with grandiose,
shimmering arena-style melodrama, and guitarist/vocalist Wayne Hussey is the king of them
all. Formed in '86 and supporting The Cult, first single 'Stay With Me' and album 'God's
Own Medicine' were both hits followed by a further 10 chart singles and album sales of 3
million. A reputation as one of the most exciting live bands in the world was cemented by
headlining Reading twice and touring with U2, The Cure and Robert Plant. 1992 marked a
departure from their solid rock style with 'Masque', which moved towards dance-oriented
tunes and stripped down the gloomy elements of their previous work. Like Bauhaus, Fields
of the Nephilim and Garden of Delight before them, the band reformed in '99 for a major
world tour. You can expect a very personal and interactive (!) show as well as classic
Mish material like Fabbiene, the sublime Zeppelin-ish Tower of Strength, Wasteland, Beyond
The Pale, Deliverance and Butterfly On A Wheel. More info and tickets:

18 Aug - Roy Mack
Boy, does this UK-based blues guitarist/singer/songwriter have a story to tell. Shortly
after realising a lifelong ambition to meet and play with Buddy Guy at his club, Legends,
a tragic car accident so nearly robbed him of his life. With the aid of
er
Southern
Comfort, an unbelievable iron will and a timely stroke of fan generosity, he fought back
from the very depths of despair to rebuild a long and distinguished career. Hed paid his
dues and now it's blues from the heart. Nicknamed "Bionic" after fourteen operations-worth
of Titanium plates and screws, blues-balladeer Roy started in the Merseybeat era with The
Renegades and turned professional, and solo, in the eighties, picking up a
brewery-sponsored "Entertainer of the Year" award along the way. His show pays tributes to
the great Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Chuck Berry and Buddy Guy amongst others as well as
his own compositions - a lot of blues, a bit of soul and some good old-fashioned
rock'n'roll. "
with his pleasant voice and superb guitar playing, his obvious pleasure
in doing what he does really shines through" - The Stage. More info:

to UK emo crew Hundred Reasons and 80's indie legends The Smiths, coMA Kai have been
ripping up the scene since 1999. Recent tours with Logan Mader's Medication and Vacant
Stare. More info: http://www.fibbers.co.uk/scripts/gig.cfm?gig_id=6073

money at a recent support! All the faves are here - Pressure Drop, Night Klub, Ne Ne Na Na
