Shenanigans -
At 18:46 of the first period, Shane McKenzie slashed Stefan Hewak. Hewak retaliated with a slash and then started to fight with McKenzie. McKenzie did not throw any punches as he tried to get away from Hewak. The refs viewed Hewak’s slash as intent to injure and assessed a match penalty and 5 mins for fighting. McKenzie received 2 mins for slashing. At the end of the first period, Jared Bilich and Steve McCarthy received 2 mins each for uncomplimentary comments to the refs. This would put Brooklin in a 3 on 5 shorthanded situation for about 8 mins of the second period.
At 18:22 of the second period, Peter Czarnecki received 5 mins for checking from behind and a game misconduct on a check into the boards.
At the end of the third period, Frank Littlejohn received 2 mins for unsportsmanlike conduct, 10 mins misconduct, plus another 10 mins game misconduct for comments about the officiating.
Notes:
A well played game. Both goalies played well. First loss of the season for Brooklin Merchants and Kitchener-Waterloo remains undefeated with one tie.
K-W’s eighth goal was credited to Craig Fotopoulos, as Dave Power accidentally dropped the ball into his net.
