Shenanigans -
At 6:36 of the first period, Dave Howard highsticked Kevin Taylor in front of the Ajax-Pickering goal area. Taylor retaliated by roughing Howard and it escalated into a fight. Both players dropped their gloves and helmets. Taylor got the best of Howard as Howard wound up with a bloody nose. Each received 2 mins for the original infractions plus 5 mins for fighting.
At 14:54 of the second period, Steve Smelt and Eddie Fines got into a tussle. Nothing major but in a hot and muggy arena both received 2 mins for roughing and 5 mins for fighting.
At 3:00 of the third period Ray Dance, who had replaced Craig Milligan because of the heat effect, took exception to Ajax-Pickering players in the crease after the Rock’s ninth goal. For strong comments to the refs Dance received 2 mins for unsportsmanlike conduct, 10 mins misconduct, and a game misconduct. Craig Milligan was forced to come back into the game. Dave Howard asked the refs to have a heart and prevent Craig Milligan from having a heart attack or suffering heat exhaustion. However, Howard’s actual words were a bit stronger than that and he received a gross misconduct.
At 5:54 of the third period, Ian Harloff and Paul Wannamaker collided in the exchange area in front of the Ajax-Pickering bench which led to a one punch by Harloff fight. Wannamaker was cut. Both received 5 mins. for fighting.
Notes:
Craig Milligan played a strong game in net for Ennismore but suffered from the heat. In the second period he stoned Nick Trudeau. Trudeau had Milligan down and an open net. Somehow Milligan raised his stick and made the save. 27 shots in the second period were enough for Milligan and he sought relief from Dance. Unfortunately Dance only lasted 3 mins.
At 8:23 of the third period after Ajax-Pickering’s 11th goal, Milligan required some time to recover from the heat.
In the later half of the third period, Ajax-Pickering decided to try their 6 on 5 play by pulling their goalie. Ennismore was visibly upset and countered by scoring an empty net goal.
