Shenanigans –
On a hot night and it appears that some respect for the USA July 4 holiday by means of fireworks would occur and it did.
The first two periods were relatively tame as the refs ignored most of the chippy stuff, although they warned both benches a number of times.
At 6:49 of the third period, 4 Gaels and one Mimico player were sent to the sin bin for various infractions. At 13:11 Hutchins of the Gaels picked up 2 mins for unsportsmanlike conduct plus a 10 min misconduct. At 15:25 Preston of the Gaels received 2 mins for highsticking plus 2 mins for unsportsmanlike conduct plus a 10 min misconduct. At 19:49 Tsuji of the Gaels and LeBrun exchanged blows. Tsuji received 2 mins for instigating, 5 mins for fighting, and a game misconduct. LeBrun 5 mins for fighting. During that scrum, Stewart of the Gaels also received a game misconduct.
At the end of the game, Nate Cotter of the Gaels received a match penalty for deliberate attempt to injure.
Notes:
Only 3 shots in the second period did not help the Gaels effort to try to get back in the game. Their first shot was taken with over 12 mins expired in the second. On two powerplay opportunities, the Gaels managed to get one shot.
The Gaels attempt to come back in the third period was marred by their lack of discipline in taking needless penalties.
John Chesebrough kept the Gaels in the game as long as possible with a number of fine saves.
