Shenanigans –
At 15:25 of the third period, Matt Skinner of St. Catharines wanted to introduce himself to Gavin Prout of Brooklin. Prout took exception to the method of introduction and expressed his disinterest somewhat too vociferously to the referees. Prout was assessed 2 mins for roughing, 2 mins for unsportsmanlike, and a 10 min misconduct. Skinner received 2 mins for roughing. To make sure that no further introductions were going to happen, Scott Campbell entered the scrum and was assessed a game expulsion.
At 17:36 of the third period, just 11 seconds of after the expiration of Matt Skinner’s penalty, Jonathan Durno of Brooklin welcomed Skinner back to the playing surface and reminded Skinner not to mess with Prout. A few blows were exchanged and it turned into a wrestling match. Skinner received 5 mins for fighting, and Durno 2 mins for instigating and 5 mins for fighting.
Notes:
Brooklin made some mental mistakes in the second period which allowed St. Catharines to make the game closer than the score indicated.
Not dressed for Brooklin for various reasons were Steve Toll, Jason Crosbie, Cam Woods, Darryl Gibson, Wes Suddons, Brad Reed.
Not dressed for St. Catharines, again for various reasons, were Mark Steenhuis, Pat McCready.
A number of fans, including myself, thought that Brooklin scored 19 goals. However, the official score sheet recorded only 18.
It looks like it going to be a competitive major series in 2004.
