Shenanigans –

Late in the third period at the 18:39 mark, Peter Lough took exception to a high stick that knocked his helmet off. This infraction was not seen. However the retaliatory slash with gusto with spotted by call up referee, Scott Spencer. Lough received 2 mins for slashing with 1:21 left in regulation time with the score.

Notes:

Referee Bill Fox’s assigned partner was ill and could not be present for the game. This delayed the start of the game for 30 minutes. An appeal was made to those in attendance for a carded referee to assist Bill Fox.

Scott Spencer was present and is a carded referee. His previous experience has been at the intermediate and midget level. In addition to referring at the minor level, he is the vice president of the Markham Minor Lacrosse Association.

The stamp on his hand indicated that he paid to get into the game. He had just finished a round of golf and had golfer’s sunburn – the arms, face, and neck. He also had a couple of hot dogs prior to the game. He was tired and full.

He did not have his gear with him and had to borrow a pair of running shoes and used Fox’s extra pants, shirt, and whistle. Fox is about 6-2 and Spencer 5-8. Sorry, Scott, you looked a bit like Charlie Chaplin in the black oversized pants.

Bill Fox and the majority of players stated that Spencer did a very credible job. Although many may disagree with the penalty call in a tied game late in the third, it was a penalty.

After the game, Spencer was impressed with the speed of the players and the quick ball movement. He stated it was at least ten times as fast as intermediate and midget lacrosse.

Thanks Scott for taking on the task and allowing the game to be played rather than rescheduled.

Last Saturday night, the Goddess of Lacrosse said that the fans would enjoy the stick skills and play of the Six Nations team. She was right. It was an entertaining game and the Wamper is happy that Brooklin prevailed. It should be another excellent lacrosse game when the same two teams meet this coming Saturday in Six Nations.

Yogi Berra must have been watching lacrosse when he said, “It ain’t over, till it’s over”.
