Shenanigans –

Lots.

You knew things were going to get nasty, when Kyle Wailes took three penalties in the first period. I was told he only had 7 minors previous to this game.

Unhappy with the events of the first period, Fraser McDonald, the GM of Toronto, engaged Fox and Line in legal arguments at the end of the first period. Although, I was not privy to their conversation, I believe some of McDonald’s arguments included comments such as: “res ipsa locuitur” the thing speaks for itself; “ignorantia juris non excusat”; ignorance of the law (rules) is no excuse. Results were two game misconducts for McDonald as the refs in their closing argument stated “stare decis” – the decision stands. The courts are discouraging the use of Latin in the courtroom and the refs felt the same way.

At 8:42 of the second period, a scrum broke out in front the Whitby net and all 10 runners were involved in one way or the other. A lot of punches were thrown by various players in a huge pile on top of Rick Passfield. Penalties assessed for Whitby were: Shawn Stephens 2 mins for slashing, 5 mins for fighting, Tom Waldock, Jay Winder, Matt Carroll game misconduct expulsions; for Toronto Ryan Shaw 2 mins and 5 mins for roughing, Michael Dominelle, Ryan McMichael game misconduct expulsions.

After about a ten minute delay, all the penalties offset and the teams continued to play 5 on 5.

At 2:53 of the third period, Geoff Griffiths was upset with Tyler Perry and decided to settle some outstanding infractions. Both received 5 mins for fighting.

Things continued to escalate and at 12:00 of the third period. All ten runners were involved in fight night. Penalties assessed were; for Whitby: Justin Burton, Nate Andres, Zac Greer game misconduct expulsions; for Toronto: Mac Allen, Wesley McDonald, Tommy Magee game misconduct expulsions.

Although the each team’s player complement was getting smaller and smaller, the fireworks were not finished yet. Two more bouts were to come.

At 17:26 of the third, Connor Tracey and Stephen Keogh exchanged punches for a good minute. Tracey appeared to be the worse of the two for wear.

Who would seek retribution at the 19:27 of the third? None other than David Campbell and David Brown. This would be no David and Goliath match, rather a large version of David versus David. Both players took off their helmets and gloves and decided to go, and the refs let them go. Campbell was a clear cut winner.

Notes:

I would have thought that as both teams still have a chance at first place, the players would stick to lacrosse. It is unlikely that these teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs and was this statement necessary at this time.

Players of the game were for Toronto – Andy Rohmer and for Whitby – David Campbell.
My choice for Whitby would have been Taylor, Greer, or Colley.

Penalties in the first period hurt Toronto as Whitby scored five powerplay goals and limited Toronto to one goal.

The Wamper was happy to see a team score twenty goals, although his Junior A team of choice this year lost.

Thanks to Trina for verifying the shots on goal.
