Shenanigans –

At 3:04 of the second period, Daryl Jackson of the Gaels and Wahiio Jacobs of Akwesasne collided against the boards and came up fighting. Both received 5 min majors for fighting.

At 4:00 of the second period, Andy Glen of the Gaels put a hit on Lee Thomas of Akwesasne much to the displeasure of Charlie Goodleaf who left the bench and went after Glen. Goodleaf did all the punching and included a head butt. Glen did not retaliate. Penalties to Charlie Goodleaf were 5 mins for fighting, 5 mins match penalty for attempt to injure, and 2 game misconducts. Glen did not return to game suffering from a headache.

During the middle of the second period, Brandon Gay of the Gaels left the bench to try and get involved on what he perceived to be an unwarranted shot on one of his team mates. He received a game misconduct.

At 2:34 of the third period Wahiio Jacobs received 5 mins for high sticking and a game misconduct.

Notes:

The Gaels requested three illegal measurements on goalie Daylan Adams.

The first occurred at 1:14 of the second period, and Adams was found to be using excessive forearm padding. Two minute penalty to Akwesasne.

The second occurred at 3:04 of the second period. Again a forearm measurement. It was legal and why wouldn’t it be after adjustments on the first request. Two minute penalty for delay of game to Gaels.

The third at 4:00 of the second period was for illegal shoulder pads. Pads were oversize. Two minute penalty to Akwesasne.

These three requests for equipment measurements added about forty minutes to the game

At this point, Akwesasne changed goal keepers. As a fan shouted out Adams may have illegal shoes and maybe it was true.

The Wamper always cognizant of new records wonder if this was a record for goalie measurements in a game.

Jonas Derks was absent behind the Gaels bench, playing for the Akwesasne Thunder major team. Lacrosse makes for strange bed fellows. Derks was ably replaced by Shawn Williams of the Brooklin Redmen.

The executives of the Ottawa Titans Junior A franchise were in attendance to scout for the upcoming draft. After this game they were headed to Peterborough to see the next game of the Junior A playoff series between Peterborough and Whitby.

The Gaels seem to find a tough way to win. With a fairly save lead in overtime, the Gaels took two consecutive penalties late in overtime to give Akwesasne a chance to tie and go into sudden death (victory) overtime.
