Shenanigans –
At 5:08 of the second period Luke Wiles and J.D Smithson decided to try to rough each other up. Doug Noganosh stepped in to try to protect Wiles. The refs called all three 2 mins for roughing. It was close that Noganosh was not third man in.
At 16:27 of the second period, Jon Niziol and Bryan Riddell clashed and slashed, and then exchanged punches. Niziol got the worst of the affair. A bump over his left eye and a cut upper lip. Penalties called were 5 mins each for fighting and an extra 2 to Niziol for high sticking.
Dave Campbell picked up three minors in the first period and then one in the second. Thereafter the watch was on to see if he would get a fifth penalty and automatic expulsion. It did not happen.
Notes:
Again, Brooklin could not contain the other team in the third period. Barrie came out and scored five unanswered goals to take lead. Three of the five were on powerplays.
Brooklin made a valiant effort to try and tie the game with two goals late in the third period. Both goals were scored with an extra attacker on the floor. Steve Toll almost managed to tie the game with about 10 seconds left. Mark Steenhuis could have finished Brooklin off on a break away with the goalie out but he hit the post.
Close runner-ups to the Brooklin player of the game were Josh McNaughton with 58 saves and Mike McLellan with three goals.
