Shenanigans
At 16:22 of the second period, Joel Bradshaw and Jon Donnelly high sticked each other and then decided to exchange a few punches before falling to the floor. Donnelly probably got the best of Bradshaw. Both received 2 mins for high sticking and 5 mins for fighting.
Notes:
A tough loss for Brooklin who were without their captain, Shawn Williams, and Mike McLellan. Both these players would have contributed on the score sheet and possibly assisted in eeking out a much needed win over St. Catharines.
Two calls hurt Brooklins chances. One in the middle of the second period what appeared to be a certain goal by Jeff Zywicki but was ruled a save by Matt Roik. St. Catharines tenth goal appeared to be scored after the 30-second shot clock ran out. The buzzer went and Gee Nash did not move on the shot by Doug Lawrence as he put it in from the right crease. Steve Toll vociferously argued the call with Gary Martin but it was ruled as a goal. Play the whistle not the buzzer must have been the ruling.
Brooklin started pulling their goalie with about 6 minutes left in the game. Gee Nash mad a number of runs back and forth to the bench, finally slipping in the crease at the 15:30 mark. Josh McNaughton continued the run to the bench and back after that slip.
Down 14-10 Brooklin elected to leave Josh McNaughton on the bench even though St. Catharines had possession deep in their end. Five seconds later Rob Taylor scored an empty net goal.
Thanks to Trina for verifying the stats.
