Shenanigans –
At 18:30 of the first period, Jon Niziol and Scott Luckhardt collided hard in the corner. To decide who was at fault they dropped their gloves and threw a few punches until both continue to wrestle on the floor. Luckhardt received a cut. After being stitched, he wore a new sweater.
Emotions got the better of Ryan McMichael and Mike Bradley near the end of the game. McMichael took a 10-min misconduct at 15:55 of the third. At 17:57 when Brooklin was trying to get back in the game by pulling their goalie, Mike Bradley received a 2-min unsportsmanlike penalty and an early trip to the showers with an additional 10-min misconduct.
Notes:
Penalties hurt the Merchants at the most inopportune times. These penalties allowed Owen Sound to tie the game and change the momentum. A short handed goal at the end of the second by Owen Sound somewhat deflated Brooklin.
A hard hitting game to set the tone for the season.
