Shenanigans:

Many of the fans expected an early Victoria day with fireworks to erupt. Both teams appeared to be on a short fuse. At 15:13 of the third period Pat Vanhooser wound up hard into Scott Wylie in the crease. Wylie took exception and landed a few blows. Wylie got 2-mins for roughing, Vanhooser nothing. Was this to be the start?

At 18:27 of third during a stoppage in play, Jeff Summerfield engaged Mike Bradley in conversation. Words were exchanged and escalated into fisticuffs. A melee in front of the penalty box made it difficult to see what exactly happened. Punches were thrown and as usual both players wound up on the floor. Penalties assessed were – Summerfield 5-min fighting, game misconduct, and a second game misconduct; Bradley 5-min fighting and a game misconduct.

During the above exchange, Kevin Taylor and Dave Campbell decided we are also the fighters on our teams. Both went to centre floor, discarded their gloves and helmets and went toe to toe and then a clinch and wound up on the floor. Taylor received a small cut under his eye. Penalties assessed were equal, both 5-min for fighting and a game misconduct for fighting during a game stoppage.

Notes:

Ajax-Pickering came out to a fast start and opened up a nine-goal lead. Penalties hurt Brooklin at inopportune times.

Frank Littlejohn will be joining Ajax-Pickering later in the season.

Wayne Richard left in the middle of the second period with a middle leg injury.

Martin and McCauley kept the game under control and prevented a major brawl during the fracas in the third.

Brooklin’s fifth goal was an own goal (Thistles Forever will enjoy the soccer reference) by Pat Campbell. Campbell twirled his stick once too much and the ball wound up in his net. Bradley was credited with the goal.
