Shenanigans:

At 6:49 of the first period, after Ryan McMichael's goal, Kevin Taylor took exception to some words from McMichael and proceeded to rip off McMichael's helmet and started throwing punches. McMichael just turned his back and tried to walk away. Taylor wound up with McMichael's helmet and took the helmet with him as Taylor was ejected from the game. The helmet was returned in pieces. Penalties were Taylor five minutes for fighting, and a game misconduct for instigating. At the same time Ajax-Pickering bench received a two minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Taylor tried to stand in the hallway and when ordered to leave sat in the stands. The refs were having none of that and asked Captain Tim O'Brien to have a word with Taylor before the game would continue. With O'Brien's urging Taylor retired to the dressing room.

Notes:

Round two of the Battle of Durham goes to the Merchants. Merchants ahead two rounds to none.

The Merchants came out with no defense, and scored three relatively easy goals in just over five minutes on five shots. Coach McCarthy sent a message to the team by putting in Rick McCulloch between the pipes. The Merchants defense tightened up and limited clear paths to the net.

A good back and forth game by both teams. Mark Craig had the scoring touch for the Rock and Brad Reed had an outstanding game for the Merchants. Reed scored a natural hat trick. On the final and winning goal, Reed corralled a loose ball, and on tippy toes accelerated all alone to the net and fired the ball in the top left corner.

A good win for the Merchants, and a tough loss for the Rock.

Yes it is true that I won the 50/50 again. Another dinner with my wife on Mother's Day.
