Well what could be better than to open the season with a 9-8 victory right on the road in Six Nations. Sure it wasn't a 30 goal night, but for close, exciting action what a way to start the season.
Redme3n opened with a 5-3 first period lead, maintained the two goal lead going up 7-5 after two and ended up with a close 9-8 victory, with team captain, Shawn Williams scoring the winner at 15:39 of the third period. For Williams it capped off quite a day as not only did the Redmen veteran lead his teammates with two goals and two assists on the night, earlier in the day it was released that he had been involved in a mammoth 7 player trade in the professional National Lacrosse League being traded from the Buffalo Bandits, along with Derek Malasky and Troy Sweet to the rival Rochester Knighthawks for goaltender Chugger Dietrich, and three runners.
Back to tonight's game. Redmen other scorers were Nick Trudeau, last years most valuable player in the Brooklin Redmen's 2000 Mann Cup championship, Jason Crosbie also had two with singles by Daryl Gibson and 38 yar old veteran Johnny Fusco who also added an assist.
For the home town Chiefs Dallas Squire had two, and single markers came from the stick of Cam and Corey Bomberry, Tony Henderson, Clay Squire and Grant Johnson.
The defending champion Brooklin Redmen open their home portion of the schedule next Wednesday night with the same Six Nations Chiefs providing the opposition. Be there at 8:30 PM for exciting Major Series action.
