Psa 78:35 And they remembered that God was their ROCK, and the high God their REDEEMER.
Isa 41:14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy REDEEMER, the HOLY ONE of Israel.
1 Cor 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that ROCK was ChRIST.
Dear Sandra,
It is true that God in Psa 78:35 is God and it is also true that the rock in I Cor 10:4 is Christ but it does not follow that the God in Psa 78:35 and the Christ in I Cor 10:4 are one and the same. You need to understand that the description "rock" is a figure of speech, it is not literal. And also, the fact that the description as rock is applied to two different persons do not necessarily allow a conclusion that these two persons are one and the same. It only proves that they (God in Psa 78:35 and Christ in I cor 10:4) are both described as ROCK.
Please note also the in I Cor 10:4 the phrase "that spiritual Rock that followed them" do not mean that Christ was there in the Old Testament or the time of Moses in a literal sense following them. Also, there was no case in the OT time that a "literal rock" is following the Israelites in a literal sense. What does it mean, however, is "followed them" in terms of TIME or order. There is a very elementary evidence that we find in the Bible that Jesus Christ was born about 400 years after Malachi and he cannot exist before he existed except on the plan and purpose of God who is the ultimate cause of Jesus existence. It is clear that Moses and the Israelites spoken of in I Cor. 10:4 existed during Exodus while Jesus Christ only followed them as he existed only during the time in the Gospels (Mat., Mrk,. Lke, and John).
I hope it gives you a clearer outlook now.
