I remember the C/D shootout, it was an interesting farce. Basically, some of the manufacturers (Ford) brought "ringers" to the test (Bud Moore & H&M prepped cars) and one or two of the manfacturers brought essentially stock cars (and really complained about the mfr's that didn't). It was the last time manufacturers were allowed to prep cars for C&D because some of the results were so far off stock. Both 390's (comet/fairlane) did very well on the drag strip, way better than stock - obviously blueprinted engines with updated cams and worked (loud) exhaust systems. The H&M car had drag race shocks and did poorly on the road course. Near the end of the test I think it was the H&M car that blew its engine (only car to do so). (Ford obviously was very intent on both cars performing very well on the drag race side). But it was a fun article to read, with C&D basically saying at the end that it was not really a test or fair comparison if my memory is correct...
