Of course it wasn't a fair test. As you correctly pointed out, some cars were sent to Bud Moore to make sure "all the bolts were tight." wink, wink. C/D knew this going into the test and decided to run it anyway. Isn't this the same magazine that tested a '64 GTO that was supposed to be a 389 but Pontiac slipped in a 421 instead?? They ran that test also and didn't bother to check the cid. They knew a stock 389 GTO from the dealer didn't run anywhere near the numbers they were getting. BTW the '66 GTO was also a prepped car. It went 14.05 at 105 mph. As factory built, GTOs don't go that fast with factory exhaust. Hell, NHRA prepped GTO's with open headers and M&H tires only turned 109-110 mph at the Winternationals. Maybe that '66 GTO WAS a 421 also. LOL Wouldn't that be funny. LOL |
