390 GT revisted...

Just got the phone call from my buddy...He has decided between the 69 Cobra and the 390GT Mustang...He and the owner haggled it out and the bottom line is 38K for the Mustang...

I posted earlier about a 67 GT 390 "what its worth" question...I have talked to the owner and have come to an agreement on price

$38000...this is bottom line...

I have always liked to the lines of the 67..let me tell you about the car...

The car was complete when I bought it 2 years ago. The engine was rebuild by the previous owner in texas and I have those receipts. I cannot say if it is the original block as the casting date is not clear. But it is a C6ME- block. The transmission is not original as the build sheets state Rug-M and this is a RUG-C2. (Still the big block tranny though). The transmission has also been rebuild and I have the old internals in a box. It has the correct Holley carb (C7OF-9510-A). The rears now has 3.89 gears as far as I can tell. I had to do some math but I think I am right. The car has FORD sheet metal everywhere although the passenger front fender is devoid of any date markings. During the repaint, I found as many date codes on the body as I could and photographed them. Doors, A-piller, rear quarter panels, windows etc. All pre-date the cars build date of June 3rd '67. During the re-paint the body shop came across some bad repair work around the doors and rear wheel arches. I had them redo it properly. (have photos). Also inside the door jams were drilled holes from rust proofing done many years ago. (It is a Metuchen car). These have now been filled. I have also taken apart the dash and looked at date codes on all instruments. (have photos). The heater fan shroud for big block cars is gone unfortunately but the mounting holes remain. It has restored deluxe seatbelts from Ssnake-Oly. Everything on the car is functional including the clock which I had restored. I am still looking for NOS horns though. The repros on it now don't work too well. The car drives very well, and scoots off the line with those gear so it is a lot of fun to drive. The ride quality is nice also.

So now the question is from him...is it a fair price...He is pissed because he has to add 2K to the price to transport it to him, so I told him must include this into the price of the car..so lets say 40K for the car...He would like opinions from the FE gang on price...Thanks

Some Pics...

Maybe I`m out of touch, but that seems like an awful lot of money for a 390 car.It looks like a nice car, but that seems kinda high to me. Does he have the stock steering wheel for the car? How much did the Cobra owner want for that car?

Ya Rory. This clown is selling his

for $5,900. I think you might have some issues trying to get it for that price though.LOL Scam!!!
Seriously though I think that is a fair price for an Ok car. If you like a 1967 FE powered Fastback Stang.
Not my taste. I'm more of a 68 Fastback guy.

That ad for $5900 has scam written all over it

I called ebay. I have phone in priveleges, wheee!

Anyway, the account holder, while I was speaking to the ebay rep, posted a message on the ad saying that it was a fraud. That someone was running an ad under his account. So don't bid on that!

seems high

If it was a very good stock restoration and backed by a Marti and the guy just had to have it, I'd say 32K-40K.

Has he got an appraisal? It ain't a Shelby...For that cash I would want one...ins will need it.. $15-$25 would be my guess based on tv sales...."can he sell it for what he has in it?" is the question....."or will he take a bath in a year?"

Looks like a real nice car, but I agree that the price

July 8 2008, 11:28 PM

may be a bit on the high side. For that money, I'd like to see a more options, like a deluxe interior, A/C etc. On the other hand, if he plans on driving it, then not being 100% correct may make the car worth it to him. I've seen 67's with almost no hope of restoration go for over $10,000.
